I've got a few young, rare-breed, healthy cockerels I need to re-home. 3 BCMS, 1 BLRW, and I can part with 1 Isbar cockerel. Also have a lemon cuckoo orphington that is almost a year old and gorgeous.

Any ideas on a good place to offer them for sale? I'd rather they not be eaten....

Angela

I sent you a PM

Easter eggers are a mutt mixed with an actual auracana or however it's spelled...so like you take a leghorn and mix it with the true auracana, and those chicks would be Easter eggers...at least I think that's how it all went down..that is why they look so different. They are all possibly mixed with a different second Breed way back when. Maybe a rock, or rir...could be anything. An EE is a mutt chicken that lays colored eggs

Wikipedia says that Ameraucanas were bred from EEs.

I am so proud of you! We covered arachnids in class just yesterday, and I had people screaming about Pictures! Having one by your head when you don't care for such things took much more control than those two students had! Maybe I should take a live one to class...... Or not. But good for you, NH. That spider will help keep the flies and mosquitoes and cockroaches down for you!
Yes, very good job. Even spiders that may bite, even if that bite may hurt a little. In the big picture, that spider is so important. I would rather one spider bite (and yes, I have been bitten: a wolf spider started a nice mrsa infection for me, but I just stuck some ichthamol on it and there isn't even a scar) Than the 50 mosquito bites that I would receive from the hundreds of mosquitoes that that spider would eat in its lifetime.

What I want to know is what purpose, on the web of life, fireants serve? I can't find a single reason not to kill those things and I'm a Buddhist. Even mosquitoes serve some purpose (they are actually nectar eaters and will pollinate some very important flowers). Fireants though, I got nothin'.

I just had to come on and share with you my "tragic" morning!! I went out to do the usual chores - feed everyone, clean out mini pond for the ducks (which inevitably ends up being the communal drinking pool), filled up waterers and check for eggs & wellness. Anyway, I am cleaning out our purple mini pool and what do you think happens to me? A HUGE spider jumps from behind the pool onto the run's fencing and starts climbing up BY MY HEAD!! I am SO proud of myself...I resisted the urge to a) SCREAM like the sissy I am and run for the house and b) Find the nearest blunt object and smash it to death and then some. I believe it was what was once explained to me as a water spider (I swear it looked like a small tarantula!!) and since they are not poisonous and/or harmful, I let it alone. <pats self on back> LOL...let's just say that it was still VERY traumatic for me. LOL. It's going to be one of THOSE days I think!! LOL
LOL!

Sorry, for your traumatic morning. We grow huge wolf spiders here in Sampson County or at least here at the house. Your story gave me a good laugh it reminded me of my son-in-law he get this awful look on his face everytime I tell him there is a big booty judy waiting on him under the carport. I know it seems mean but what's a good mother-in-law for. LOL I guess we have been here to long and are use to them now (they still do freak me out sometimes). Hope the rest of your day is better!!!

Also, Hello to all the newcomers!!!!!

LOL!

HAHA...while I would probably scream and pass out (not kidding) if you told me there was a spider above me, I do LOVE how it traumatizes others as well. LOL. I was happy as I know they do serve a purpose and unless it's going to hurt my child, I have decided to leave well enough alone. I allowed the DH to kill a black widow because it was hanging on the coop and since our kids help with the chickens, I just couldn't risk that. I know...Shame on me. We like to play a similar "joke" on my MIL as my husband will tell her that he's going to make her process our dinner and then it just happens to be the night that I am serving chicken...then he offers to show her a photo of what the chicken use to look like...

It's cruel, but he LOVES to do it to her. I will say if she ever agreed to it, he'd be in trouble, because he has NO photos and we rarely bake our chickens that we process (because they are old tough roos). Still, you have to do things that liven life up a bit, right? Hehe!!

Hollow - thank you for the compliment!! I will say I think I would be one of those kids screaming in your class...worse if you actually brought one in for a "show in tell"!! In that case, I would probably cry and wet my pants in fear!! I usually get a fear so bad that I am paralyzed...it's THAT bad!! I may be asking you a TON of questions in the future when we get into more advanced homeschooling - I saw a really cool Marine Biology course and a Zoology Course (for high school students...which obviously a LONG way off)!! Right now we're just looking at some beginner phonetics and possibly introducing her to a foreign language to help her learn grammar and such easier (Latin). My goal is for us all to learn several languages: Spanish (a refresher for DH and I), Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Latin, and French. Aside from Hebrew & Greek & Latin, we have family/friends that are fluent in the other languages so they could help with communication. She just really wants to be able to read by herself and I guess rather than "wait" until she is old enough, I am just looking at Kindergarten material that teaches the fundamentals...especially since I have LONG since forgotten the rules of phonetics and such....that happens when you stop teaching and using it...boo!!

Here's a prayer that I don't mess up and discourage her unknowingly!!
