If Beth was able to give you 12 eggs that turn out to be hens, I gonna have to have her select my eggs from now on

I'm POSITIVE Beth selected ALL hens, but the problem lies with me. Once I touch an egg, I think it MAGICALLY transforms and instantly becomes a rooster!! I'm hoping the little guy we lost last night was in fact a rooster... LOL

As far as the baby goes, you're usually 2-3 cm the last month, and with both of mine I was 75% effaced by 38 weeks.
Rendering a guess without knowing the due date going on my experience working as a nurse in labor & delivery before deciding to be a stay at home mom-- you probably have another 2 weeks to go, so you should be good to go on Sunday.

I second that... I'm not a nurse, but with the first one, the doctors got my hopes up for an early delivery by telling me I was "progressing" nicely by dialating and being fully effaced a full MONTH before my due date...needless to say, she was overdue by 5 days and even when I went into labor, I was still at the SAME dilation I was the month prior. Still...it's ALWAYS a good idea to pamper the pregnant lady as her time approaches!!

I can test to the fact that it's miserable and those last few weeks are TORTURE where you just want that baby out and your body back....LOL (although I am already there and I still have 8 weeks to go!! LOL)

Good Afternoon Chicken folks!! I was up before the rooster, which is NEVER a good thing, but managed to organize my sewing room, make my husband proud by attempting to play a video game (seriously...NOT fun for me...LOL) and started mowing (which I am taking a break from to put the kiddos down for a nap!!). Found a sad discovery this morning, our first chick to hatch (he/she hatched yesterday) was a black (I believe orpington...

) fell out of the nest and was unable to get back into the nest...it either froze or starved to death...but I found it laying next to the mama at the base of the nesting box. DH fixed the problem and dug a hole for the nesting box to sit into the ground, so if one falls out, it should (SHOULD) be able to get back in. During the process, he saw 2 white/yellow chicks and 1 brown chick under her...which means we have at least 1 SFH and 2 Leghorn/Something (I forgot) Crosses!! So far 4/12 have hatched and mama is doing VERY well. She is a sweet broody - unlike ALL the others before. Can't wait to see what else hatches!!

With outside hatching starting to happen, I just want to advise everyone that no chick is dead till it is WARM and dead. I found a chick pushed out 2 years ago. It was cold, lifeless, and stiff. I was about to go bury it when I saw a very tiny movement of its beak. I thought I was seeing things at first, but after a few more seconds the beak made another very small quiver.

I took it in and placed it in the incubator. 10 minutes later it was breathing. 20 minutes and it was holding up its head. It progressed and after about 2 hours it was up and prefectly normal. That was the last time we let that hen try to set. She rejected chicks as the hatched. She just wanted to set. We gave the chicks to Daisy, a Buff Orpington. She hadn't even been setting on eggs and had only been broody a few days. When presented with a chick she stood up and gently pushed it under her. Then she got really mad that we were still holding her other chicks. She was a great first time mother and was renamed 'Mama Daisy'. The little one was of course a Cockerel, but I did find the LF Blue Cochin a new home.

Sorry I got side tracked, but the point it that nothing is dead till it is WARM AND DEAD.

well the flock swap was good today, only came home with a young dun Sumatra roo and a red golden pheasant male. It was great seeing everyone again, and meeting all the lookers who came by.

My turkey hen hatched out 10 of the 12 eggs we gave her....

She has 7 calico sweet grass poults, 2 black mottled poults & 1 chocolate poult.

My male turkey has been strutting all over the yard like a proud papa. He is so funny.

JUST this am...found a dead duckling. Thought I saw the eyelid move, put the duckling in a basket, popped it in the bator, went out to finish chores. When I cam back in, the little one was up and peeping !!

Well, we went to the baby doc this morning and the GF is 2-3cm dialated and 50% effaced?! LOL I guess that means "on schedule"? But here's the problem: I was going to go to WCA on Sunday but not sure this is a good idea to leave her home alone. Would anybody be willing to take some birds for me for say like a 10 or 20% comission? (I'm sure my spelling is off today) If not that's fine too,LOL HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!

If anyone near Burnsville, NC has a large breed rooster they don't want to keep let me know. If forgot to close the coop last night and something got my big roo, and 3 of our 10 week old chicks... and a lot of eggs, including my fake egg...Lol. But I am looking for a bew big rooster if anyone has one they don't want or need I'll take him.

I have a few SLW cockerels that are 8 weeks old. I can't keep them all. If you want one, you are welcome to one. I am in rhe Burlington area.

I just love these pics. I incubate, and never have a broody, so I just LOVE pics of mamas with babies. One day *sigh* I hope I will have the joy of a broody hen who hatches babies. I can dream.
