North Carolina

If its fowl pox or a fungus, how do I treat it. None of the others has anything I can see and they are still laying near bout every day. Thanks for the help in advance y'all :)

I am in orange county NC near Hillsborough this is my first year hatching eggs we got the fever so bad we bought 5 incubators and filled all of them.I also have Royal Palm poults and am trying my hand at incubating peafowls
Holy Hannah, you didn't just jump in, you're rafting over the waterfall! How many eggs in all and are they all set to hatch around the same time? Let us know how your adventure progresses. Welcome!

Been off the computer for a while, about a week, since it's been so busy here. I sold three of my five bantam chicks Thursday, and last Sunday (Mother's Day), we had three out of five duck eggs hatch under my two broody ducks that were sharing a nest. Unfortunately, one duckling died yesterday. Found it floating in the pond. Not sure what exactly happened.

Found out today that we have an explosion of grain mites, thanks most likely to all the rain we've been having. Going to get a new feed bin with a lid that seals better than the one we currently have, dose the feed and surrounding area with DE, and hope the problem goes away. It makes my skin crawl.

In other news, I've set twelve chicken eggs in my incubator, due to hatch in about two weeks. Hoping for mostly pullets.

Hope you all had a great week, and will have a great weekend. I'm looking forward to tomorrow night, date night with DH, the first one since December!

Well Chickenstock was a rather damp event but I was able to sell everything I took except for my blue Isbar cockerel and Norwegian Jaerhon cockerel.....so even with the rain we had a great day!

It was so nice to meet some of the folks from this list, too :)

My day was made, however, when I was able to leave with a little tolbunt Polish pullet from Cardinal Ridge! What beautiful, healthy looking birds!

I was so upset to see the way some individuals transported their animals. I had no idea people would do such a thing, but in the pouring rain they had soaking wet birds in wire cages in a small flat deck trailer with no covering whatsoever! My husband and I were both just appalled. The poor birds were just pitiful and I know they were cold not to mention the wind from going down the road blowing on them and additional rain hitting them. Fortunately, there was just one that we saw leave like that. I cant imagine that that is legal but who knows.

Lots of birds were getting soaked in the rain with sellers who didn't have shelter. It was sad to see the little babies soaked to the skin and shivering just trapped in those cages. There were even some little bunnies getting soaked with no shelter at all. Of course, the BYC folks that i met had shelter for their birds and you could tell they were well taken care of. Anyway, aside from that, we had a great time. Hopefully, the weather will be better for the Fall Chickenstock. And hopefully, the sellers will plan for whatever the weather is! Its not that hard to listen to or watch a weather report.....? I mean, really?

I would suggest anyone NOT wanting to walk
very much avoid the zoo.......it's a beautiful zoo
that is very spacious and means LOTS of walking
to see all the exhibits. I love the zoo and it's one of
the best I have seen but it is a few miles of walking
and the center area of the zoo is uphill from both
of the entrances.....likewise for the Battleship North
Carolina in Wilmington.......great to visit and see but
lots of walking......the aquarium at Fort Fisher or Pine
Knoll would be good places to take the kids and then
have a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon on the
beach.......that always has me bringing home wore out
grandbabies and great memories
