Hello:)

I have a quick question and need some experiences chicken advice. I had five chicks, the hatchery quarantined the gender. Well don't you know it we got a roo. I exchanged him (our flock is 11 weeks old) for a five week old. I have them separated but within sight. I'm now thinking it was a mistake, how will they act when I put them together in a week or so? I had a scare this afternoon when my black Australorp grabbed her by the beak. Is the new chick going to have social issues from being in a coop next to the older chicks?

Good Morning, Happy Chicken People!

Off to Virginia today to visit a friend. Won't be on.

Welcome to the new folks....and the extended family! Glad to see spouses on. Mine isn't interested in chickens enough to join, but he is supportive of me doing them so no complaints!

Enjoy your day!

Place your lowest ranking chicken in with your new chick for a while then gradually add another etc. Do not add it to the flocks original pen for awhile until it and them are use to each other in the new pen where the little one is. It will help some. There will still be some pecking going on. The pecking order is usually established by about 6 weeks.

Happy Memorial Day everyone!! A special THANK YOU to our brave men/women of our armed forces and the sacrifices they've made for us!!
Welcome to the newest members!!

Frustrated doesn't even begin to explain my situation right now. Came home yesterday afternoon to see our chickens "playing" in the field across from us - NOT our property and NOT welcomed. Called them all home, locked them up and now we're trying to figure out WHY all of a sudden they are leaving our yard (this has not happened in the 2 years we've lived here with chickens) and heading to "greener pastures"? It looks like in the very near future we will be setting up a fence or something a we do not want to become THOSE neighbors (especially since we are SO far from our nearest neighbor)!! Still NO duck eggs found and my chickens have been laying outside the coop as well, for we went from 6 (I should have 15 laying right now) to 1!!

I think as punishment they will be locked up today and "scolded" each time I walk by the coop today!! LOL
In other news...5.5 weeks!! I'm hoping and praying for 2.5!! Now...to do some research on names!! LOL
