Lost my dear Abby yesterday the hen with the egg problems. Went to TSC and all they had was Duramycin-10. When we got back she was gone. She had pass some more egg in her stool and looked like foamy clear stuff from her mouth. She took some yougart and water yesterday. I wish I had something for her sooner. Did more research on here and Baytril and penicillin were the ones mention. Is there a chart or something to tell what antibiotics you should have on hand at all times and what they are use for. I know about the first aid chart. What about the drugs. I order from Randall Burkley alot and they have some of everthing looks like.

Abby my sweet EE . Rest in Peace

Sorry about your girl. I don't have a list of stuff, mostly because my vet is on the road behind me and I can always get what I need...fresh...if I have an emergency. Otherwise I buy as needed. Threw too much expensive stuff out before.

Thanks. I envy you. I did ask another chicken owner who has some antibiotics but the penicllin she had went out of date so they trashed it. I think I will order some penicllin to keep on hand. Won't hurt I guess.

My husband is going to be super upset when he finally gets home and realizes his chickens are gone...
I was just wondering how long until your husband got home. I thought chickens were your project and he was just a hapless bystander

I'm sure it will be a big shock for him. Just show him your post when you had to cull them all by yourself, by hand. It had US all in tears - perhaps he'll value the trauma you endured and realize you were just being a responsible chicken keeper? Good luck!

Good luck in your chicken search, too.

Yep, I constantly waste by having things go out of date. That's why I buy as needed and rely on the doc for emergencies. It's cheaper for me in the long run. I kept a bigger pharmacopeia when I raised sheep...but I used it more then, too.

Thanks, He will be home in ONE WEEK!!!!!

It's crazy because we've been through deployments 8 months home 8 months away for 5 years now and this one feels like the longest and it's only a month! I think its because we've had no communication, even when he's deployed I'll get emails or get to skype a few times a week.
I feel like he's going to come home and be so confused-- our baby is talking in complete sentences, we lost like 50 chickens, the cruise ship we were going on for vacation in a few weeks caught fire and got cancelled, his stepmother was diagnosed with cancer and started chemo.... It's like a years worth of stuff happened in a few weeks!
Chickens are definitely my project as the ones we had besides a few were all the ones I wanted :) (...and I do all the work!)
He grew up on a dairy farm in upstate NY so he really wants cows which we can't have here. I was such a city girl, so I think he's thrilled he's finally converting me to be "country" haha.
He told me whatever chickens I got, he just wanted a couple reds (ironically he bought some at the auction which ended up wiping out my flock), but I know he will be sad to find out there's none.
Good news-- I did find LAVENDER ORPINGTON hatching eggs!!!!!
You all that know me, know I've been wanting them awhile.
It's going to be rough going almost a year without farm fresh eggs though, they've got me spoiled!!!

I am SO sorry for your loss, I hate to see anyone lose their chickens.

2StrayRoos:
I'm hardly the expert as I just lost all my chickens....
But from the experience I had duramycin 10 didn't help me at all (nor did the injectible).
What I found worked best was 1 CC Tylan 50 injections to the breast once a day for 3-5 days (and it was other people on this site that gave me that info)
Just something to store in the back of your mind God forbid you ever get another sick chicken.
I don't know what I would do without this forum, these guys give so much information, love and support!
We're all thinking about you and Abby.

By the way....
My husband is actually a member on here (Big Red Tractor), but he never posts, I think he just spies on me during the day to see if I'm cleaning the house or talking chickens (which it's usually the latter)

Another question... I treat my 20lb long haired indoor/outdoor cat with frontline plus every month (and give a little extra due to his size). For the past 2 days I'm getting what looks to be mosquito bites, but it's inside the house. I know it's not bed bugs or anything, so I'm pretty sure it's fleas from my cat. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it or do I need to flea bomb the house? Also, does flea bombing the house effect chicks?
