Good morning all!

Does having sand in the run add flea problems?

Just heard one of my "hens" crow

. Guess my "Girls Club" sign will have to be amended. Thinking of adding a sign under "Girls Club" - "Rooster Protected"

"Girls Club" and "Rooster Protected" -- love them both! Perhaps your hen is just testing out her vocals? I am no expert but I have heard of some people on here mentioning that some hens are more dominant and seemingly "crow" but its not really a crow? I don't know, just a thought.

I still need to paint my coop. I really am not a red fan - but barnyard red seems to be the go-to color for chicken coops. Maybe I'll go against the grain...

Not much new on our chicken front, but our garden is THRIVING! We are about to have an overload of cantaloupe, watermelon (in a few weeks), peppers, and holy COW - zucchini. I am learning lots as this is my first year --

Hope everyone is having a happy Tuesday --

Does anyone know where I can get a silkie hen or pullet? Looking to get it sometime this summer.

I don't want to go through ending up with roosters again.
I don't want a pair though would be willing to pay pair price for just the girl if it's a good one.
I don't want to go to a flock swap or auction was trying to find someone that had one they'd be willing to sell that I knew they took good care of so I don't have to go through all that again either.
I looked on craigslist to hopefully find a breeder, but all I saw were people selling their roosters and one guy in Fayetteville claiming to be a breeder selling "show quality silkie hens" that are 8 weeks old and only hatched females, so he's either trying to pull a fast one or doesn't know much about them.

Good morning everyone. We pulled a HUGE bowl of veggies from the garden yesterday evening. All this rain is great for the veggies, but the weeds are impossible to keep up with! We're also in the middle of a hatch, which is always exciting.

Since there is so many posts on here and I can never keep up....

Sorry to those who have lost chickens or are having trouble with yours. And Luke your son is adorable! Congrats!!

Hope everyone has a great day.

So sorry to read about Abby's passing. You can google search a lot of the poultry problems and find recommended medications. I have done this a lot when I could not locate a veterinarian. This BYC community has also been very helpful!

Does having sand in the run add flea problems? - I don't think so...

I have not seen any fleas on any of our animals - including our LGD and our aussie who are out all the time.

Our problem is TICKS!!!!!!!!!! I am about to go crazy trying to get rid of the darn ticks!!!!

We have a flock of guinea hens that keep the ticks at bay around the house/yard, so our indoor dogs never have ticks, however, our outside dogs get them continually despite all my efforts. They patrol the property (50ac) and go in the woods, tall grass, etc. If anyone has any suggestions, please advise.

I have used Frontline Plus but it was useless so the Advantix II was recommended. It seemed to work at first and now it is totally useless. We even tried the Preventic Tick Collars in combination with the Advantix II more frequently and totally useless. I am at my wits end. I finally bought some Flea and Tick spray for dogs and sprayed them down with that in conjunction with the Advantix II and Preventic collars. No luck! I am afraid I am going to kill them with all these chemicals but they could also die from lymes disease.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I am desperate!

Hi everyone,
My husband bought this really cool incubator. I put 30 Rhode Island Red eggs and 28 hatched. The problem is 11 are roosters. Now, I have 15 roosters that I have to chase out of my chicken area to avoid them ripping up my hens. I don't know how to get rid of my 3 month old roosters. I posted several listings on Craigs list but only one response. I bought my first chickens from Carolina Town and Country Flock swap but they were all sick. 2 out of 10 died. We then decided not to ever go back to flock swaps. We bought 20 or 30 Rhode Island Reds from McMurrey Hatchery over a year ago and they have been doing great! I get 24-26 eggs a day. Even in the winter. Now the 3 month old hens are laying little eggs. :)
How do you sell your Roosters, Hens and eggs weekly?
