Hope not too many of you have to swim to the car this morning.

We are fortunate here, we only have flooding in low spots in the yard. Regardless of how clean the pool/pond is, the first thing the ducks do when it rains like this is go "bathe" in the muddy puddle water. I will NEVER understand it!! LOL. I think my chicks might need some floaters to help them say above water!! LOL.

No news here aside from a SCARE yesterday!! Had a bird (don't know what it was) swoop down and fly around the chickens, Tyrone (our rooster) sounded the BIGGEST alarm I had ever heard. I ran outside just in time to see the brown bird swoop down and light into the trees. Called everyone over and did a rough head count, but was worried because some were missing (found out later, they were the smart ones, HIDING). I am SO glad it rained and I decided NOT to let mama and the babies out...we could have fed the bird - then again, I don't know for sure that it was a bird of prey/predator but the alarm was NOTHING that I have heard him do before. Still, ducks & chickens are okay and that's ALL that matters!!
I hope those of you getting a lot of rain manage to stay somewhat dry!! Today is FRIDAY!! I am SO happy it's Friday...my DH will be home for the weekend, I have a graduation cake to finish decorating, then I must deliver it tomorrow and RELAX!! Remind me again, WHY I agree to do cakes while pregnant?? LOL or at all?!?
Have a great day everyone!!

I have FABULOUS news I feel the need to share!!!
I just got word that SOMETIME today my husband will be home!!!!
I have so much to tell him after not talking for over 3 weeks!
Though other wives have warned me to take it slow because all he will want is a hot shower and to sleep for 3 days.
I can't wait to see him, I have butterflies so bad!!!!

Oh and the stupid bunnies are fine, seems the rain helped take down the garden fence and they're in there finishing off my 2 rows of kale!!!

Luke-- I remember you saying you have rabbits and they won't go in your garden. Do you do anything to keep them out because my fence isn't working. Someone said you can buy dried blood and put it out there (ew?) but it's only supposed to work for wild bunnies to scare them off your property.

I actually just read that you can put hair clippings on the edges...interesting! I wonder if it works?!
It may sound crazy but I read it in an article on Living the Country Life about keeping pests out of your garden.

Need a haircut?

Morning everyone.......

Great News Dutch.

Did some thinking last night and this morning, and have decided to part with my Barnevelders. (I've got lots of Welsummers and French cuckoo Marans. I don't need ALL the dark egg layers!) I do have more cockerels than pullets, so they could make for interesting olive eggers. Hatch dates 3/10 and 3/23. I think there's eleven, with only three pullets. Pm me if interested.

You can buy fake weasel blood somewhere online, but I just use my pellet gun....LOL, when they feel like getting in my garden I get to eat a tasty rabbit! But if they're just hagning out not eating MY things then they're cool with me

I'm glad you like them and can't wait to see how many lavs you get

Me too! They are rested and going in the incubator today. I was a little concerned about the weather and losing power - but I think I was just being overly cautious. I will be sure to post pics when they hatch.

Dutch bunny, are your eggs going in the incubator today too?

We just had a brief lull in the rain so I ventured out to the rain gauge... to be honest I haven't dumped it in a while so I don't know how much of the measurement was from the last few days and how much might have been left from last time it rained. (When was that???) The rain gauge that measures 5" was overflowing! The cat wouldn't come in last night when I called so she slept out last night. She came in yowling and very angry this morning. I guess she figured one of us should have woke up and opened the door when she was ready to come in... someone is spoiled...

Stay dry everyone! I hope no one has damage!

I am just catching up. GREAT NEWS about your husband coming home... sounds like he is coming back from the field? The other wives gave good advice, let him get a shower and some rest. Try not to bombard him with too many details - even though there is soooo much to share! Hopefully you two have all weekend to catch up!!!

Glad the bunnies are fine, even if they are feasting on kale.

I don't have a pellet gun. I've thrown things at them like water bottles and they just look at me like I'm crazy and keep eating until I chase them out. Mine are pretty small (dwarf lionheads mixed with angoras) I don't think there'd be much meat on them. Plus it'd probably scar my kids, they're not used to a farm life.

He's at SERE-C school (Mock POW camp for 3 weeks where you are tortured to learn how to survive if captured by the Taliban). You can google the nitty gritty on it, unfortunately I chose to do this the day he left and have been a wreck the last few weeks because everyone that went has quite the horror story to tell about it. Other wives are telling me when he comes home he will have lost about 30lbs, he won't want to talk to be touched, he will sleep for like 3 days, and needs time to decompress. It's going to be so hard not to just jump up on him and overwhelm him by telling him everything that's happened. Keep telling myself to calm down and take it slow....
I've NEVER gone this long without talking to him, I'm like shaking, I'm so anticipating the call that they're back. I have no idea what time it will be.
Haha almost broke my neck falling down the steps to go answer the phone and it ended up being my mom. I told her she's not allowed to call anymore, I'll call her after he's home haha!

I put mine in yesterday, just put the turner on this morning (well back on, I had it on the first 2 hours not realizing I was supposed to rest them).
What I didn't plan out too well was I am leaving June 29th for 16 days....
So I'm going to have a neighbor care for them when watering the garden and feeding/watering my other animals, but newborn chicks are a lot harder to care for than the other animals, so fingers crossed I come home to live chicks!!! Hopefully they've even hatched by the time I have to go. I don't know how I didn't think about them when ordering eggs, I guess I just thought I had more time it doesn't feel like June already!

Can't wait to see what yours look like when they hatch!

well all the frogs for 5 miles must be at my house having a great loud shin dig. The kiddos are mad that I didn't let them swim out to watch them before school this morning. But it was nice to hear them this morning singing (still don't know how the frogs didn't wake me up) Anybody need frog eggs
