I don't like spiders at all!!!! I will play with a snake anyday but do not let me be around a spider....I carry a pistol and I would have given thought to shooting one like you described and hoped the chicken got out of the way! LOLOL

I would have done the same thing!

Beautiful chickens everyone!

Tarheel birdy, I love the SFH's... another breed I have looked at, now I want them TOO!

kittyacid, Harry is beautiful! He sounds like an awesome rooster, hopefully someone will give him a wonderful home.

Matt, I love Gandalf, so pretty!

Newhomesteader - I want to see the video of the spider! I am fascinated by spiders... I don't want to touch them or hold them, but I can watch them for a really long time. Have seen a couple of HUGE Wolf spiders with babies swarming on/around them... too cool.
Hope everyone's weekend is going well. I have babies hatching, can hear chirp, chirp, chirp from the dining room. LOVE hatch day!

NH, you are correct...8 legs! They do have pedipalps that can resemble an extra set of legs on some, though.

I've spent the day with an out-of -town chicken friend who will be visiting until Monday. Today included visiting Beth, who is a mutual friend of both of us. Fun, fun, fun!

I have the sweetest rooster ever. His name is Harry and he needs a good home. He was kept as free-range by some people that lived about a quarter mile from me and they moved and left him behind. He made his way to my house and hung around outside my chicken pen for a month before I finally let the girls out to see how they would get along, It was instant love. He is polite and gentle and is always trying to find treats to give them. The other day I put canteloupe rinds out and he was picking little pieces off and calling them over. He picks it up and drops it over and over until they come for it! He does not over-mate them, usually he drops a wing and does a little dance to get them to squat for him. He keeps about 5 feet away from me and has never been the least bit aggressive. He is just a perfect rooster but I have one neighbor who complains about his crowing so he needs a new home. I hate to see him leave, honestly he is a pleasure to have around and is beautiful as well. I believe he is an Old English Game bantam but maybe someone else will know differently from his pictures. I live near Raleigh, but don't mind taking him anywhere he may have a good home. If any of you would consider adopting him or know someone who might, I would love to hear from you The two pictures were taken today and I have included a video that shows him saving treats for the girls.

Thanks!
Hi, I would love to have Harry but wouldn't be able to get him until next Saturday. PM me and we'll chat and make a plan. Thanks, E

Need some more help. Go out to the silkies pen and Amber is passing what looks like blood in her stool. She did it 3 times, each time it looked gel like kinda like a clot. She laid a egg yesterday first one in about a week and the rooster sorta rough her up this morning doing his thing almost knocking her to the ground. She has never had a problem before and was fine yesterday. I don't think it is coccidiosis because their pen is new and still mostly grass and very dry. She is not ruffled up kinda quite today ate a little, drank water but move slowly. I wonder if she has torn something inside or I read on here maybe intestional lining can pass? She is 8 months old. Any advice on this one? On a lighter note ,we wormed the EE's Thurs. right before the storm. Did the bread method and it went very quickly. Everbody got their own piece. Saw 2 worms yesterday and 1 today, they were dead nothing like what I saw Monday. Now to help Amber.
