Kristan,

Good luck with making your own! Since I love making stuff, I have a coolerbator that has worked pretty well. I just put in a test batch for a dry hatch. So far the best upgrade I did was to get rid of the water heater thermostat and use a wafer thermostat.

The water heater thermostat isn't nearly as accurate as the wafer thermostat. There is something about the wafer thermostat measuring the ambient air temp and the water heater thermostat measuring the radiant heat from the light bulb. If I understand the science, the ambient temp is the temperature that is throughout the area of the cooler, while the radiant heat is the temp right at the water heater thermostat. I always had a couple degree variance, even with the modification of drilling holes in the thermostat as recommended by a few folks. Wafer thermostat assemblies are available at Amazon and a few other places, or you mignt want to see if someone on here has one to sell or swap.

There are great wiring videos on Rush Lane Poultry's U-Tube channel. I also like his design ideas.

Just some thoughts. Have fun!

I really don't want to take my chickens to the chicken auction guys. They will either be eaten or definitely exposed to all sorts of disease and mess up there. :( I have got to figure something out. I don't want to have to keep them cooped up....sorry for the pun...but I don't have the heart to take them to the auction. I guess I need to work on making a huge chicken coop and run for them at out new place. I need more wood and more chicken wire.

Hello! I think I'm going to try to keep as many of these as possible. I have to work on a sturdy safe big coop though. I'm trying to find stuff to work with. I know I probably won't have enough space for All of them but I am still trying to find good homes. I'm just so worried that wild animals might get them. I am thinking of building a coop near the pond in the cow pasture it will be fenced in inside the pasture so the long horns won't mess with them. What do u all think?
