What kind of chicken is this? Feathering looks weird and was supposed to be EE but comb doesn't match and doesn't have muff or beard? Feather pattern looks like dark brahma but no feathered legs or feet! I have no earthly idea what kind of chicken he or she is! Lol and her or his legs are grey!

I've only ever seen the Brahma's with the feathered legs and their bodies fluffier.
EE's have that color of legs and can be any color feathers, but other chickens have dark legs too.
It almost looks like a silver penciled variety from the pattern, but I can't see it all that clearly.
But the only ones I know of are cochins (not that because leg feathers), wyandottes & rocks but their legs are both light.
So, yeah, I have been no help!
What type of comb?

Good morning folks

FYI............silkie roos are not hard feathered
and do not have saddles.......streamers in the
crest sometimes but with their type of feather you
will not see hackle or saddle feathers and hens may
have as big of a tail as the roos.........they are so much
fun to try to sex

hope everyone has a good day

I don't know what they're called, but the feathers in the tails of the males are pointed and the girls are more rounded.
My first silkie I knew was a rooster from his personality, but the rest have been tough.
They're so stinkin cute you can't help but get attached to them, and we have too many neighbors for a rooster!
My new girls are one white and one blue, but neither bearded, that's what I really wanted :(

Anyone have an idea of why this guy may be limping? He has not been injured that I know of - he has been in a separate pen with his brothers and hasn't been out to free range for a few weeks. This started about a week and a half ago and has gotten worse until now he basically does not use it at all. He is eating and drinking and getting around but mostly just uses the one leg and his opposite wing to balance.

I have examined the leg and can feel any heat or swelling, no bumble foot or anything like that. It may be up in his hip but I can't tell. I tried manipulating the tendons to see if it had slipped but it didn't feel like it had....??

sorry you lost one of your silkie chicks already Dutchbunny

My friend wanted one so I let her take the black one, but thank you!!!!
I let her have it for what I paid, she really wanted a girl silkie and didn't want to place a big order.
She's the same one who split the turkey and meat birds with me.
Haha now with my luck watch hers end up being the only girl!!!!

I'm doing a MUCH smaller flock this time around...
Not counting the meat birds I think I'm doing 2 silkies, 1 Lav Orp, 1 Lav Americauna, 1 Olive Egger, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte, 1 Red Sex link (for some reason my husband needs a red chicken!) and we will see how this Appenzeller Switzhauben works out! Super pretty bird, but it says it doesn't like confinement and they fly really well....

I still really want a Marans, haha my goal was to get it to 6 I'm sure within a year it will be at least 20....

well I see that he has no use of his foot so I would say from the hock down is your problem

OK. He seems to be able to throw it forward so you are probably right....poor guy. If it is something painful, I will have him put down but he is not painful, I don't mind letting him hang around. He can't really aggravate the hens with his disability. I just wonder if it was something genetic or if he did something to it somehow.
