Ok, I got mine on May 5, so I am just 4 weeks behind you.  :)  How exciting!!  I am brand new to this, but I have a rhode island red who looks to me to be the most mature. She has a lot of red, including behind her eyes.  My plymouth rock though isn't too far behind her.

I am brand new to this too! My husband about kicked me out when I brought these chicks home back in April. Fortunately, they are out of the house now and not causing any trouble, yet. My friend at work has chickens and she has told me what to do. She actually went with me to look at a chicken coop that was "for sale" in Moore county back in may. Well, we pulled up (in separate cars) to this house that was more like a shack. There were all of these cats, tied up dogs, and a huge pig in the yard with grass up to my waste. My friend and I got out of the cars and you know how you get a "feeling" about a situation....not a good feeling either...well, this woman comes out of the house...all skin and bones...to show us this "coop". Well it was a huge piece of wire and wood with holes all in it. My friend is about 4'11" tall. She took one look at the "coop" and high tailed it up the driveway. I tried to be polite and make conversation with the woman asking about how many cats she had......well it just did not get any easier. My friend almost pulled me out of there by my hair she was walking so fast to leave. We practically spun our tires getting out of "deliveranceville". I felt like we were Lucy and Ethel in a mess. Anyway, needless to say, I am hooked on chickens now. AND, I am still looking for an inexpensive coop for my three chicks!:).

I have a brooder pen for sale if any one close by is interested. 10 Feet long by 2.5 Feet deep x 3 feet wide. Is in three sections, 2 larger ones and a smaller one. The two larger pens, have extra ventaltion for older chicks, getting used to outside temps. On rolling stands so its very easy to move around. Comes with 2 light attachments for heat lamps. Small windows in the front can be closed by a shutter on a hinge. Could also be made into great breeder pens by adding an open wall.

Luke, your mini me is adorable!

Howards - sorry abou the rooster!

My little peeps - I learned a trick to tell who is laying which eggs. This was on another forum on here, please don't ask which because I really don't remember... You can use food coloring on the vent of your EE, just put a few drops in her vent at roosting time and if she lays in the next few days the egg she lays will be stained the color you used. Recommed blue or green as they show up really well and won't cause concern like red might. It only takes a few drops. This is MUCH easier if done with two people, one to hold the chicken and one to administer the drops. BTW, it is also how vets artifically insiminate hens. I have no idea how they obtain the sample.. can't think about that! BTW, I learned this when my 3 EE's were laying cream eggs... I sold them as barnyard mixes.

Pamschick - glad you ran! Ewwwww.

Welcome to the new folks! We have some great people on here.

CSB - Wish I was home doing chores too! Gonna be a beautiful day!

Enjoy your day everyone

Pam, I'm sorry your coop didn't work out. Regarding that lady with all the cats and dogs and the pig (and it sounds like chickens too) - I think DH is worried I'm going to turn us into that. Lol. Good luck finding a coop that works!

Where are yours laying? Do you have a nest-box somewhere or did you just find the egg around the yard?
