Honestly...........Matt is the best source for any show info.
I had seen he had posted the date but I don't remember where
or when he said it would be.....I just know I'd like to go see it again.
I think we need to co-ordinate a picnic lunch if that many of us
are going......who has ideas??????

hope you find your cat Dutch

Chuckle for the day: http://tikktok.wordpress.com/2013/11/06/what-is-it/

Hope you find your kitty, Dutch. If it helps any, one of ours went missing a few weeks after we moved. He showed back up *a year* later- rough and skinny; was shy at first until he relaxed and settled in.He was declawed, too, but could catch squirrels, rabbits, etc. His name was Merlin, because he survived the dog in the backyard we used to have and parked his battered self by the front door.

Anyhow, your kitty could still come home. Hope he does.

Good morning folks

What a pleasant wake-up this morning.....
to the sound of an easy rain on the roof!!!
We need this water......it's been too dry around
here for too long........on the other hand the
pressure changes from the weather front are
causing a bit of problems for my joints but
I'm still glad to have the rain.....I want to play
in the puddles

hope everyone has a good day

Is there a way to kill a turkey besides cutting off the head/cutting the neck?

We are spending $30 a week to feed 6 turkeys, they are pooping like crazy and getting loud. My kids can't help me feed them or clean their pen because they're so big now they're afraid of them (and they do pretty much attack you when you're serving their feed).

My husband is deployed, I've never processed a bird, but the turkeys need to go!

Any good suggestions on processing? I'm really thinking about just putting them on craigslist. Though I let them out to free range this morning and they're splashing around in the mud so they've got their pretty white feathers all dirty! Got to clean them up real good to take their photos.

If I were you, I'd try to barter this one. Perhaps there is someone out there who would process the birds with you and show you how in exchange for one or more of them. Why are you not wanting to cut the neck or cut off the head though?

I have a real issue killing anything, even though I know it's the ethical way to do it if my children are to eat meat.

Last time my husband was away back in the spring I ended up with a sick flock and had to cull them. Which I sucked it up and did it, but I had a really hard time with it and the blood and I just can't do it again. I also kept hesitating on cutting them which made it way worse for both the birds and me and my favorite ended up taking a really long time to bleed out (in retrospect I didn't do it right) so it was just a mess.

On a meat thread I saw someone killing them with a b.b. gun. Like held them so they were comfortable (some put a sock over their head) and just shot them point blank with a BB which they said killed them instantly. Not sure if that would work with a turkey? I think all we have is a BB rifle anyway (and I don't even know where I told my husband I don't want guns in the house so he's got them hidden in the garage somewhere.

I don't even know anyone to barter with? Are there people that advertise processing? I'm still pretty new to the whole meat thing.

Also, what's the smallest amount of turkeys you can have? My husband loves his Tom and wants to keep him, but I'm really over the whole turkey thing and don't want to keep more than him. Will he be lonely? Can I put him with the chickens or is that not a good idea? I have a hen I can keep with him. I don't know, turkeys just didn't turn out how I'd hoped and ours eat so much they're a huge money pit and super messy!

Question-- What do you do to get your silkies to roost?

I noticed mine keeps sleeping on the floor of the coop, not up on the roost with all the other ones.
I was thinking maybe she was still young so couldn't get up there yet, so out to the coop I go every night with a flashlight to pick her up and put her on there.

Then I just read that silkies don't have barbicles (spelling?) on their feathers so they can't fly up at all (don't know how I never realized that. Guess since my last roost was like a ladder my silkie roo just hopped to the top and I never noticed he didn't fly up there like the rest.

Guess I need to build a smaller roost for the silkie so she can hop up?
Won't she get cold in the winter if she's sleeping alone?
