There are lots of threads about mealworm raising on BYC. I used to raise them years ago, and keep telling myself I'll start back up for the chickens, but somehow never get around to it. One day!

Wild, so sorry. I can't imagine my bed without my cat Hecate. Her purring puts me to sleep most nights.Talked to Vet today, Aki is still the same, which I guess is good because he isn't getting worse. I miss him so bad, he always sleeps with me at night and now my bed feels so empty![]()
Thanks! They are nice big girlsAt that price sounds like selling for a loss. If I had the cash I'd be all over that maran/ee girl. She's so pretty!
Good morning folks![]()
One of the things about winter I don't like so much
is the lacking amount of daylight......it makes hard to
get projects done outside after I get home from work
when it's already dark outside. There is a lot of pruning
needing done and several plantings that need to be dug
up and relocated.......plus I hate housework and really
don't want to be stuck inside with that.![]()
hope everyone has a good day![]()
What a great hatch! Thanks for the wellie chicks that I picked up this weekend, they are doing great!Having a lovely hatch going on. 16 EEs (Ameraucana x Silver Sussex) and an as-yet-undetermined number of Welsummers. 21Wellie eggs went in. Can't wait to see how many hatch. This is my last hatch this year! No more chicks until March or April.
I think.![]()
I can do everything but maggots and their look alikes.I'm strongly considering it- but only if I can do it outside in the workshop/barn. As for handling them, that's what gloves are for.I had a lot of brothers growing up... most creepy crawlies don't bother me. I do have a very healthy respect for spiders though. And if cockroaches ceased to exist on the planet I'd be one happy woman.
Great article on mealworms... I have thought about raising them from time to time. It would be a great, sustainable source of protein rich treats for the girls. I am not crazy about handling the little buggers though. I have also thought about sprouting seeds.Hey all! Found this article while perusing Pinterest today. Thought I'd share.

Sounds super easy and the dried mealworms are super expensive. I can't see heading to a pet shop on a regular basis but this seems feasible. Certainly easier than driving 45 minutes each way to the nearest pet store.
