sounds like a black minorca (only white ear lobes) or white faced black spanish (all of face goes white with age) or a black andalusain (white ear lobes) a picture and his age would help with his breed.

So sorry to hear about your loss chicken dad!!!

Turkey shelter question--

My gigantic meat turkeys have outgrown their coop (they were supposed to have already been processed before they got this big or it got this cold, but my husband left).
Last night they were sleeping outside, which even though wild turkeys live out in this, it seems too cold for them, isn't it?
I was going to head to Lowe's to get some supplies to build them something.
It's not going to be too fancy as my husband will be home in 2 weeks and they are headed to the freezer, but I want them to be comfortable until then. If I put down straw or bedding on the ground, can I build them a shelter without roosts? Roosts would need a lot more framing (and $ for lumber) and I've noticed the big ones won't even roost anymore as they're big. Also, how do you get them to sleep in a new shelter? Anytime I introduce something new it seems like the birds would rather sleep outside then go in it....
My turkeys would roost in the trees no matter what I provided for them. Through storms and sleet and snow. Occasionally in wet weather some of the hens would move in with the chickens, but I could never get the toms to do so. I felt badly seeing them come out of the trees in the mornings with frost on their backs...until we butchered our first one and I saw how thick that layer of blubber was. I quit worrying about them then. I say let yours sleep where they have been.

chicken dad-- I'm so sorry for your loss!

Hollow-- Thanks for the advice! The pair I got from you have been sleeping way up in the dogwood tree, but those meat fatties can't fly like they can haha! I threw together a little shelter thing for them. Just some treated fence panels attached to the fence and a couple 2x4's. The back end I stapled up some of those feed bags made from that tarp-like material to keep the breeze out and some bedding on the ground. They don't seem to want to go in it, but at least I feel like that have something. They stopped using the shelter those 2 days I went away over Thanksgiving and when I got back they were all wet, muddy & cold I felt awful! I can't wait until my husband gets home and we can process these 5 they're eating an insane amount of food & they're so dirty! Only heritage from now on (if we do anymore...)
Should at least keep them dry for the next couple weeks...
It's only 6' long and 5' tall at the highest point

Here is a picture of Jesse. Think this was taken around July of 2012 according to the date stamp on my camera card. We got him around mid March of 2012.

The last two are today just after we found out he passed. Hope these help, figure he was around 20 months old.

Matt and RF, thanks that's what I thought he was. Like I said in the first post, when I found him he was laying on his back with feet up in the air. Thought he was dead then. We looked him over real good and all we found were a couple small puncture wounds on his back. The hen that was missing till dark had a couple small puncture wounds on her back also. Guess that's why I'm leaning towards a cat. Feathers were scattered all over the backyard in several different places probably totally 50 yards or so. Figured if it was a rat that the wounds would have probably been worse or at least the attack been more centralized location. If it was a hawk, figured it would have left after having a run in with the rooster.
Thanks all for your well wishes everyone.
