We have been reassessing our farm goals. We've decided to stick to a handful of breeds/varieties. I'm keeping my American Buff Orpingtons, English BBS Orpingtons, and English Chocolate Orpingtons. Also keeping my Welsummers, Golden Cuckoo Marans, BBS Ameraucanas, and my EEs. And that is it on chickens. I've explored lots of breeds over the last few years, and these are what I like the best for our purposes. So I've got a bit of clearing out to do.
First, I have a few roosters I'm going to part with. One Golden Cuckoo Marans, one Buff Orpington, two Silver Sussex project cockerels, one...maybe two...Gold-laced English Orpingtons. The last were sold as pure, but may actually be project birds. Same on the Silver Sussex. Sold as pure, but they are projects. Good projects, but still need work.
If anyone is interested in the roosters, let me know by pm, please. There will be other birds, including pullets, a bit later as I sort some more. I have some single females that won't work as EEs, so will likely part with them later.
While I'm sorting, we'll be building more chicken houses so I can have permanent breeding groups, on pasture. We had decided that we would build two more, each 16 x 8, divided into two 8 x 8 sections. Each section then feeds into it's own pasture. But hubby came to me last night and said he thinks I should make them larger!. I think he must be right!
Enjoy this cold, sunny day!
