North Carolina

We have been reassessing our farm goals. We've decided to stick to a handful of breeds/varieties. I'm keeping my American Buff Orpingtons, English BBS Orpingtons, and English Chocolate Orpingtons. Also keeping my Welsummers, Golden Cuckoo Marans, BBS Ameraucanas, and my EEs. And that is it on chickens. I've explored lots of breeds over the last few years, and these are what I like the best for our purposes. So I've got a bit of clearing out to do.

First, I have a few roosters I'm going to part with. One Golden Cuckoo Marans, one Buff Orpington, two Silver Sussex project cockerels, one...maybe two...Gold-laced English Orpingtons. The last were sold as pure, but may actually be project birds. Same on the Silver Sussex. Sold as pure, but they are projects. Good projects, but still need work.

If anyone is interested in the roosters, let me know by pm, please. There will be other birds, including pullets, a bit later as I sort some more. I have some single females that won't work as EEs, so will likely part with them later.

While I'm sorting, we'll be building more chicken houses so I can have permanent breeding groups, on pasture. We had decided that we would build two more, each 16 x 8, divided into two 8 x 8 sections. Each section then feeds into it's own pasture. But hubby came to me last night and said he thinks I should make them larger!. I think he must be right!

Enjoy this cold, sunny day!

I couldn't help myself! $61 for 20 ducklings shipped.
Mixed variety so not sure what I'm getting.
If anyone close by wants some ducks, you can have them at cost ($3), I don't need 20....

Hello NCarolinians- I bought some property near Asheville this past summer. Looking for the chicken community near me. Give a holler if you'd like to connect :) I'm north and west of West Asheville, one mile outside city limit.

Welcome to NC and to BYC!

Gardenmuse-- Welcome to BYC, I LOVE the coop in your pic!!!

BHep-- I have no idea. They said they had a bunch of extras hatch so running them as a straight run hatchery choice special shipping today only. She said that it was a mix of layers and meat ducks, and she knew for sure there were Pekins & Blue Swedish, but not sure on the others. She said black something too, but I never heard of it so it didn't stick with me. Guess I'll find out Friday?

Banriona-- Not really sure, guess it depends what I get. I'm probably only looking to keep maybe 5. I know a friend of mine is wanting some now too. I can let you guys know what I actually have when they get here.

If anyone's interested in ordering them through ideal it's a 20 duckling minimum, but it only came to $61 after shipping. I think the more you get the price goes even lower.
