Had on baby freeze to death hatching out two nights ago. :( Managed to get mama and the nest moved in the house (I'm on the road and missing it!) and have two babies.

We'll see how many we end up with!

Since last night, I have had this image of a bee doing the Russian Kozatsky dance wearing a tall furry hat while the Dora the Explorer song of "buzzy buzzy bees" plays in the back ground. I wonder about myself sometimes.

I know what you mean about the kids. I have tried to stay away from everyone that is sick & go figure, I have had the flu for 2 weeks now. It has kicked my tail to say the least.

I also agree that the snow is beautiful, but if hate having to unfreeze water in the pens, my poor hubby has had to do it all by himself the last 2 weeks. My poor ducks have walked on their pond instead of swimming in it, but they are the only ones that don't seem to mind the cold. Lol. I am so ready for at least a little warmer weather...lol

I got tired of having to haul hot water out every morning to thaw out the 5gal bucket of water in the chicken coop. Their setup is a hanging 5gal bucket with chicken nipples on the bottom so sitting it on a warmer wasn't an option. Finally decided on an aquarium heater. It's designed for a 10 gallon tank, but is doing just fine out there keeping the five gallons nice and cozy. Fully submersible and has an automatic sensor to shut it off if the water level drops below the heater level. So far it's kept the water nice and cozy ever since I put it in there. My main concern is that the lowest setting on it is 65 which is warmer than I like for bacteria control but can't win everything. Cost me around $30 with shipping from amazon but for what it's saving my back and whatnot from having to haul hot water out every day it's a worthwhile investment. Don't know if something like that would work for you, but thought I'd throw it out there for anyone it may help. All I do now is keep it topped up above the heater level and then clean out the water once a week or so as needed.
