North Carolina

Hi everybody, I hope that those of you with kids are hanging in there. Good luck DB!

BHep, hope you and the kids are feeling better soon.

Welcome to BYC new folks!

RF, My DH and I went on a track identification walk too. We saw squirrel, deer and something that looked like fox. It was amazing how many deer tracks we saw, especially since we don't see that many during the day.

I love the snow and don't mind the cold... BUT am happy tomorrow and the weekend are going to be warmer. My chickens aren't amused with the snow and aren't even all that pleased with the hay I put on top of the snow. It has been hard getting them out of the coop.

They're 8 and 2 1/2.
Which because of the age difference they usually don't fight, I don't know what's gotten into them.
The older one doesn't want his little sister bothering him or coming in his room, the little one throws temper tantrums when she can't go in there.
And with DH gone neither will listen to me.
It's always like that, every time he leaves, the first week or two no one listens to me at all.
Fortunately he'll be home this weekend....

Well, after the kids have ran out and in several times and even the DH a few times, I decided to go out. Didn't make it far, unless you count the slide down the stairs.

All this time I have managed to keep the steps and stoop de-iced. Well, apparently the gutter above froze over last night after I last broke the ice out of it and it dripped onto the stoop, which than froze. I don't know if I should be madder at the fact that I fell or the fact that the other 4 people who had already been out and back in forgot to tell me there was ICE!

I bet that was what DH was going to tell me when he stood there and said "Man I was going to tell you something, but I can't remember" than he walked out of the door to go to work.

Hope y'all have a good safe day

Hello everyone!! I haven't been on here in a while but all the snow we got in central NC has kept me cooped up in the house.
I wanted to give you guys first dibs on some POL pullets I will be selling!
I've got:
1 Sicilian Buttercup pullet
1 Splash Andalusian pullet
2 Splash Laced Red Wyandotte pullets
1 Golden Comet pullet
1 Barred Rock (about 4 months old)

And a couple of roosters:
1 pure Black Australorp
1 beardless lavender Ameraucana
1 black bantam cockerel of unknown breed

Everyone is between 6-8 months and none of the pullets have begun laying yet but I would assume if the weather warms up a bit it could be any day.
I feed organic fermented feed from Reedy Creek and let them free range on non-snowy days. They also get hydrated alfalfa pellets while the grass is dead and organic sprouted wheat and rye.

Most of my roosters suffered frost bite to their combs this week, especially the Australorp with his giant comb. My coop is not ideal for such cold and humid weather but does anyone have any suggestions for preventing it keeping in mind my less than ideal coop?

Hey there! your Sicilian Buttercup pullet and 2 Splash Laced Red Wyandotte pullets are interesting me!

your roo I can help tell the breed if it is the one I have in mind.....could you PM me so I could ask some questions?

Starlingdaly, coat your roo combs with a very thin layer of Vaseline or other petroleum jelly. That'll help protect against frostbite.

SICK PEOPLE! Get well soon, all of you! This is not the best diet plan!

Someone on the serama thread was praising your chicks and babies she had gotten from you! do you have a website? I would love to look more into your seramas!

right now I don't relly have too much room in my coop, but I would love to see your birds!
