North Carolina

Speaking of nut job stories...I think I might have drowned that dang rat! I have seen zero signs of rat anywhere since I flooded it's hole. Nothing anywhere! No sign that it moved over to the barn, or to the compost. Of course, I could be missing it, but it's for sure not in my Juvenile Detention Center, which is my first goal! Yay! A 55 gal drum + of water did it! So find the hole, stick a hose in, and post someone with a pellet gun at the other entrances. It poked up, saw hubby, and went back down, never to be seen again! I'm hoping it went into a side chamber and ended up drowning there!

My two little bottle-babies are doing fine. Three-week-old Alpine doelings named Sage and White-Foot. Cute, as are all baby goats!

Yay! You found me. A hint, though. The gate is always shut unless people are going in or out. Dogs do not belong in the road, and riff-raff does not belong at my house! I'll pm you my phone number so you can see if I'm home next time around. I don't work every day, although I'm still apt to go to work every day. Except Friday. I got my schedule arranged to have Friday's free again this semester, and unless I am neeeeeded, I'm not going in!

Sun and seventies...what a dream. At least for a few more days....

Does any one have Polish hatching eggs or one or two Polish chicks. I had a trio of buff laced and I moved them outside with the others of their age and went out a few days to find my neighbor's dog IN my coop and all 3 Polish dead along with both BOs, 3 meaties, and 2 EEs. Needless to say the dog is no longer a threat and my coop is do well sealed I have issues getting in.

Where in NC are you?

Welcome aboard trailhound!  (and any other newbies I missed since I've been on so little lately)

Headed back to Pittsburgh this week.  DH's grandmother passed away, so we're headed up for a couple days of funeralling.  Hope I don't lose any more chickens this time!

In case anyone is interested, I sent an email to Ideal poultry asking about their Ameraucana's.  Wanted to know if they were pure Ameraucana or EE.  Here's the email I got in return:

"Jennifer—

The Ameraucanas that we have are purebred, but we do not separate them according to color, which means they are not recognized always as a particular color.

Thank you,

Julie Eason"

So there you have it.  We got ours from the Southern States in Asheboro that orders from Ideal.  She is a fantastic bird, she got off to a rough start bullying her way up the pecking order but once everyone let her rule the roost she calmed down considerably.  Gives me an egg a day six days a week.

So they all have both muffs and beards and lay only blue eggs? Keep us posted. ;)
