I have quail hatching. Took a handful to work today, and one of my colleagues took this.

Just saw this, SUPER CUTE!!!
I LOVE quail.
If you ever have extra fertile eggs to sell let me know, I'm about ready to raise some more.
Only hatched them once, but the it's my favorite meat I've had from any bird we've raised.
And the 5 girls we kept are super docile. They love to be held. I even got a few chicks for my broody turkey I can't break & when she rejected them we put them in with the quail. They took them in like their babies, kept them warm under them at night. Haha now the chicks are bigger than my quail.

CSB! Glad to see you today. You were missed this morning!

Farmraised, congrats on the career possibilities! I've not seen the show (we don't have cable and I don't take time for TV), but it sounds like a great move! On the quail face, though...they all look like that! They can be Joker 1, Joker 2, etc!

Dutchbunny, it'll be a while before I'll have fertile eggs from the quail. I didn't save over any breeding stock for the winter so am starting over with the hatching eggs I got in. Beth and some others would likely be able to help you out sooner.

Raining cats and dogs and I still have chores to do outside. I'm grading until the worst of it passes. So I'll do chores in the dark on wet ground. Can't win!

Seven more glorious Golden Cuckoo Marans out! Five girls to two boys. My odds have been good two hatches in a row. Keep your fingers crossed it continues! I'll be getting more eggs from elsewhere in May, too. That'll help. I'll end up with three different bloodlines together, so can manage to keep the diversity going if I'm careful. Love these birds!

Hollow--

Gorgeous bird!!!

I didn't keep any of my boy quail-- I started them at the worst time ever & with this bitter winter I was spending a fortune on heat lamps. Thought I'd never have them again & went down to a few girls for eggs then I tasted them haha!!!

Good luck with the rest of your hatching!

So.........today has been a very wet day here......times it
rained so hard and fast that the roads were flooding. The
birds are going to have a hard time finding dry dirt for a dust
bath and since they track that mud to inside the coop it will
make for some mud on eggs despite lots of hay in the boxes

Thanks I think so too despite all the traveling I'd have to do with time away from my kids and wife it would be too good of a chance to pass up

The pump has been running all day to move Lake Ramirez out! So far I have only managed to keep the fish in their pond and not my neighbor's yard.

Hollow how dark are your golden cuckoo marans eggs?

We're a biology family...with the exception of hubby.  DD works for the Environmental Investigation Agency in DC.  DS is about to graduate.  I teach at one of the UNC campuses.  Today I brought newly hatched baby quail in for my student to oooo and ahhhhh over.  Most of them have never seen babies.  I'll bring baby rabbits when I have those.  Even brought bottle baby lambs in one semester.  They had to eat!  And I use examples from our farm in class all the time.  Shows them the practical side of things.

We'll be out in Boone for Ds graduation next month.  What part of WNC are you in?

Aww that's awesome. I don't think I could handle being a teacher. I lack patience lol. Sounds like a fun job!! I was at unc chapel hill if u go to that campus :)
I'm in the boonies a place called franklin kinda near asheville. We are known as the "gem capital of the world" lol
Woohoo

Not as dark as the BCMs, but respectable. Better than the regular cuckoos I got before...by a long shot! I should get pics. Or a copy of the egg color chart!

I originally got them for my son...he's an avid fly fisherman and ties his own. Yeah, I know...what person gets a rare, expensive breed for that! (Raises hand sheepishly). But my husband reeeeeaaaaaallllly likes them, and I've gotten pretty addicted, too. But until I get the additional blood in, I won't sell anything other than spare cockerels. My gene pool is too limited at the moment. But next year I'll be able offer them!
