DST-- I have chocolate orpington eggs in my 'bator ( as well as jubilee), but I don't have much hope for them with the number USPS did on them. Got them from Greg Mignot at www.ultimateorpington.com.

BUMBLE FOOT-- Never had any experience with it, about to look it up on here now, I think my Blue Marans has it. It's almost like she got something stuck in the main pad of her foot and got it dirty? But now it's all swollen. My husband was trying to pick the dirt off of it and it started to bleed so I told him to stop and not do anything until I got on here. Any suggestions on what do to? Is bumble foot a cut that gets infected or am I way off and that's something different?
I sometimes read the hencam blog (hencam.com/henblog) and the writer did a post on it. heres the link http://hencam.com/henblog/2012/08/bumblefoot/ there was also a video somewhere on youtube. This type of thing makes my skin crawl

Good morning folks

We had a nice weekend.....only problem with it is it was
too short. The Cape Fear Poultry Assc. meeting went
well and was interesting. They are working on doing a
second show in March. I am new to the club and it will be
interesting to see how a show is put on. Got to see Hollow
too so that made for a good weekend.

hope everyone has a good day

I enjoyed seeing CSB and RF yesterday, and putting a face on Langshanman, too! Had a lot of trouble hearing in there, though. The acoustics were dreadful, and I'm kinda hard of hearing. Still the people seemed quite nice and I was pleased to hear about a second show. It'll be quite interesting to see how they work behind the scenes.

Looks like another awesome day a-brewing! I'm loving getting to sleep in! Didn't get up until 6:30 this morning! Totally decadent, but I can't make it a habit. This week, though....oh, yeah!

Good morning!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Thanks for the feedback on bumblefoot. I'm thinking that's what it is, it just hasn't progressed to the point that the ones in the articles have? This photo was before I cleaned her feet up-- I soaked them in salt water for about 15 minutes, washed all the dirt out, packed it with Neosporin and bandaged them up. I laid her in the nest box thinking she'd stay in there and relax, but she just got out.

Everything I have read on bumblefoot says I need to cut the abscess out? Those with experience do you think that's necessary? I am afraid I will end up doing serious damage to her, as I don't know what I'm doing. There really doesn't feel like anything to cut out? Help!

DE is used as a perventive measure but does not stop all the mites or lice. Sevin dust wil kill the lice.
Thanks for letting me know what DOES work....THAT's exactly what I needed to hear....as I said, I'm new to this kind of thing and want to do it right. Love my backyard ladies!!!! I will continue using DE as preventative but I will go get some sevin and dust everything.

You have to clean it out because the swollen lump is a mass of infection. Here's the video I watched
