Found a rat snake in nesting box today.. He was in process of eating an egg... no telling how many he got before I found him. My neighbor came to get it for me... ugh hate snakes... what do u guys do to keep them out

Well you can see how many eggs a snake has eaten as they swallow them whole. And actually if you smack right behind where the egg is inside the snake they will cough it back up and that egg will be fine. So unless the snake looked like a disgusting beaded necklace it only got the one.
I grew up on a lake and mallards would nest In our yard and sometimes you would go out and a mama duck would be off the nest freaking out usually because a snake was meaning her babies, but we learned the stick smack maneuver and were able to recover most eggs. And those eggs would go on to become cutie little ducklings.

There is not a sure-fire way to keep all snakes out. For controlling them Shot-guns work, so does catching them and relocating deep in the woods.

Good mornng!

Only way to keep snakes away is to completely eliminate all cover and all potential food sources. Keeping chickens means you'll always have the potential for snakes.

Heading to Georgia today to celebrate my mom's 82 birthday.

Well chicken feed brings mice and mice bring snakes. I never mind seeing them. More snakes fewer mice. And our snakes seem to hang out in the rafters of the coop. And I figure if they get too brave they will be free chicken food. Lol. Nature and all that jazz. I sometimes worry I will be up there and one will fall down on me from the rafters, but so far so good

Please stay safe!!

No, the thread just went quiet. I kept refreshing it, and when that didn't work, I left BYC and came back...and still nothing. Not even any green text this morning...

Maybe all the talk of snakes was too much? LOL
