Hardware cloth. ..Anything else can be chewed through. And coons are tricky buggers. :/

Anyone else get that wicked storm that blasted through here this afternoon? No real damage done here, aside from the hail stings while I was trying to get my car in! Branches down and light debris is all. Hope everyone else in the path got as little damage!

I came home to a broken tree ... the one I've been worried about falling on the house. I was blessed though: the way it snapped just laid it into another tree so there was no damage to the house! Now, how to finish the job?

Oh what fun it is to have to get out of bed at 1:30 AM in the morning to try to catch the kids pet rabbit. I swear, Skunk would turn and hop to me and get within reach, just to dart away

. After about five minutes, I ended up with a rabbit in the fish net

. Glad Skunk is a boy, so I don't have to worry about any babies.

I'm really disappointed this am. As many of you know, I am depending on the kindness of dear dear friends to help build my new coop. I have bought the plywood for the flooring, a large roll of 1/4" to put under the flooring before the plywood goes down. Well, they came out in pretty threatening weather yesterday (after work even)... When I went out to open the ladies this am, I checked out the new building (being made from recycled wood that they took off of an old shed) and they did put down chicken wire under the plywood !!! The 1/4" roll is still laying there.,,,....,,.., the walls are framed on top of the flooring so its not like I can get it changed at this time..but I told them I would put down the layer of linoleum on top of the floor. Can I still put down a layer of 1/4" at that time?

I wanted it to be as predator proof as possible. they don't understand that rodents/snakes can get thru chicken wire. Right now +I'm just really wishing they would take it off the market.!

If you have a solid floor, I don't think you need wire under the floor. That hardware wire
would be best around the bottom of your run. I haven't seen the set-up so it's hard to
say but usually a solid floor and walls is enough to keep out unwanteds. The place they
get in will be windows and doors and any weak area in the run.

The walls will be solid with 1x8"planks. Since the top is slanted, the "extra space at the top will be for ventilation and covered with 1/4". There will be a window hinged to allow it to be opened and layed back...the opening will also be covered with 1/4". The door is a really old door with 3 vertical windows at the top...the area behind them will be covered by 1/4".....I will create a skirting around the run/coop with pavers. the run will be framed and covered with 1/4"....but the top will also be covered.....can that be chicken wire or because of climbing predators...should I continue the1/4" right over that?

jt..........sounds like a good plan on the coop. If you are not having
big predator problems I would think the chicken wire over the top
will work. If you do have problems then I would go with something
heavier. We use a heavy fabric bird netting that was tossed by the
army base when they redid a hanger. We also have gotten some
commercial fishing net.

We need it, my yard is a dust pit and we're watering the gardens like crazy!
