Never had an egg bound but yeah Ive read that this is what you do. A lot of people use epsom salt with the bath.

Thank you guys! I have been giving her a warm bath and managed to figure out that it is actually a bound egg. I can feel it and the poor things vent is swollen. :( I let her soak this morning and again for about 30 minutes a little while ago. She keeps trying to push... but it still eating and drinking. I also managed to get some liquid calcium into her, because I heard that can help (that wasn't too long ago.. I really hope it helps!)

And can any go you guys think of what color this chick is?

He hatched from my blue roo and one of my buff hens. The coloring isn't right for a buff, and is most definitely not blue

Any ideas?

We had an egg bound hen a couple times and my husband washed his hands and kinda stuck his fingers in there and helped move it around and it came out. You have to be super careful doing that though because you don't want to give them prolapse. Or break the egg inside of her. Ours it was right by the vent to come out, but it was sideways so she couldn't get it out on her own. Always happens to the same sex link we have.

Does anyone know where i can get bales of hay around fayetteville/parkton? I need it for composting not animal food. Is there a season for it?

Hay is baled all summer long, starting around May. But if you are just using it for composting, someone probably has last year's hay sitting around and should either give it to you, or sell it really cheap. Check craigslist.

Okay that makes sense! I haven't seen any posts for hay but I'll post a wanted ad then

With the lack of rain in some areas many farm have not cut hay yet
and this would be why you are not seeing many ads yet. Last years
hay may still be sold for animal use. Look for hay that 2-3 years old.
That would be best for composting. I would actually suggest straw for
composting as it has less seeds in it and it will not compact as much as hay.

Spent yesterday getting some sorely needed breeding pens knocked together from some old pallets and other stuff laying around the house. So far it has worked out well, just wish I had a few more of those odd long pallets and the heavy cage like panels. My great coop building partner and I didn't get done yesterday due to mother nature, so hopefully we will get done today as the pens are already filled so to speak.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning folks

My trees and bushes, garden and grass are happy campers today.
Mother Nature sprung a bucket load on us yesterday.....just over
3" in the rain gauge here. Although there were puddles very tempting
puddles begging to be played in, there was also serious lightening
so just watched it all from inside. We are on one big sand bar so those
puddles disappeared quick......maybe next time I can get the GBs
and play in the puddles.
