so far the only thing close to that is a chick dealer license ( http://www.ncagr.gov/vet/chkdealr.htm) but i think that's for people who buy large quantities from hatcheries to sell locally. (e.g farm stores)

You need this form:
http://www.ncagr.gov/vet/forms/documents/PoultryDealerLicenseApplicationForm_blank.pdf

Fill out and check "Poultry/Ratite Dealer (no fee)", mail it in, 4-10 days later you have a license to sell poultry.

If you are selling from your property, you do NOT need a license. If you sell at home and then deliver somewhere, you do NOT need a license. If you take birds to sell at a show or swap/sell, then you DO need a license. If the sell is happening on private property then you do NOT need a license.

So all the flock swaps are illegal?

We got approached by people looking to start a bakery about eggs. They want us to supply all their baking eggs. That would put us well over the 30 dozen allowable without grading. Does anyone here sell such a quantity of eggs that you need to grade? Depending on what is required aside from weight, I may need to learn! That's a whole new set of laws to deal with. Or just limit sales to the 30 doz/wk and let them get the rest from a different farm. I'd rather do the sole supplier thing if possible, though.

"Green card" allows you to sell at flock swaps, and all. There are different ones, different aspects of chickens, eggs, chicks, and amounts. Matt A NC would be the one to ask.

Oh and @Hollowoakfarm I've figured out that only 2 out of the 10 chicks we got from you are cockerels! Mom is ecstatic we managed to get 8 pullets from the bunch. She was terrified she just grabbed roosters.

I hate that I can't hatch anymore chicks until next year. i really need an outside shelter to keep my chicks in so i can hatch even in winter. But even though i have the land space, building more coops and runs is so expensive and difficult. maybe next year when my flocks are mature and settled i can expand.

Also, I've been reclaiming more land from the wooded area behind my house and maybe just maybe we'll be able to setup an enclosure for a bunch of goats. their enclosure is easier to build and i'll actually have support on that project
