He looks like he could be a non muffed/ bearded ee. Or he is just some random mix. Only way to know for sure is the breed him to a white egg laying hen and see what the pullets from that cross lay.

Sounds like a plan! I love him either way. Ee or mixed. He isn't aggressive. Doesn't over mate the hens. And of course a good protector. I'll set some eggs to see what hatches lol.

Another rainy day in the piedmont this morning. My girls are eating me out of house and home these days. My untrained (lack of) knowledge tells me they are stocking up on nutrients to start laying!
Stay dry all!

Or if you leave feed ou all day for them, you are feeding their friends too. (wild birds, mice/rats, coons/ opossums and such)

Hahaah....yeah, I feed them with a hanging feeder inside the coop. No neighbors are eating their goodies.

Good morning folks

Yesterday was the 4th day of school for the students and yesterday
was the first car to pass the stop arm on my route. I know folks don't
want to stop but it's about safety.....not hitting and running over a child
trying to get on a bus. Folks don't realize too that most of the buses and
all of the buses in Cumberland County, have cameras on them that also
record those cars passing the stop arm. Please be careful and stop for
the bus.

When I drove a bus, someone passing my stop arm always took my breath away....Even I watched for just that situation and none of my kids were near the front of the bus ........ I always knew what the possibility "could" have been. Thank heavens I never lost a child! People just don't think they would have to live with if they had killed a little one! I'm so glad they have cameras and I think everyone who passes a stopped bus..(with the arm/lights blinking),,ought to be prosecuted without probation!

Yeah, I have auto feeders hanging in each house, and I know the birds and squirrels help themselves. I feed the neighborhood. And the feral cats eat our cat food...which is better than eating our chickens!

And I still can't produce enough eggs to keep up with demand....

It's been an odd year of sorts so far. The turkeys didn't start laying
until later spring and are still laying. The roosters have become a
hit-and-miss deal with the hens so fertility has dropped and although
there are a few feathers out and about they are not molting like they
have in years past. We also had more hens go broody than we ever
have before..........odd year.

Have you thought about fermenting? It's seriously saved me 2/3 on my feed bill and you can't beat the super nutrition.....
