Good morning folks

Dang it's cold outside!!!!!

We lived in Michigan for nearly 12 years, 7 of those in the UP.
I loved it and working outside in the snow was exhilarating.......
life was grand. I always thought winter in the lower peninsula was
a bit colder and that was because it had less snow to insulate things.
I am to the point of understanding the folks that were called 'snow birds'.
Older folks who went south for the winter..........I'm feeling a need to be
a snow bird.

Amen!!

I finally set up a nesting box in the chicken run. I just needed some hay. It was expensive though 6.50 for a bale...smh oh well it was kinda big so it will probably last me a while. I saw 2 girls peeking in, hopefully the eggs will appear after the solstice, in 10 days.

Hi, new member in Cape Carteret. I have requested the city commission to consider amending our city ordinances (thanks the BYC for guidance on how to draft the letter) to allow the responsible keeping of a few chickens. It will be considered at an upcoming meeting. I would appreciate anyone's support in this.

new flocker and good luck to you on this.

Hello everyone! Life around here has been CRAZY and I have been pretty absent since being prego with twins. Now they are here and we are busy as ever! My husband just accepted a job in OHIO and we will be relocating in January, forcing us to search for a new home for our chickens. Any advice?!

6 laying leghirns, 2 laying wyandottes. They are coming out of their first molt. They are super friendly and love attention. HELP! I really don't want to have to put them on Craigslist.

:gig Just have to show someone!! LOL I'm guessing that this had to be from a pullet who had not layed anything until yesterday, Went out to tuck everyone to bed and I always check the egg/nesting areas. Last nite THIS was in one nest. ..I felt something but had my work gloves on and wasn't sure....I had fun laughing and talking to the girls about this one,! :lau But they seem to care less. Haven't crack it for the omelette, yet.:sick I will take picts when I do.. betting it doesn;t have a yolk! , This is a teaspoon !!just to help show comparison. This is the normal egg I got at the same time,
700
700
The last two picts I think are from the same chicken..perfect except soft shell

I am slowly learning about the desired characteristics of
each breed of chicken. When I was younger I could learn
this kind of stuff with ease.......now not so much. Things
just don't seem to stick so I have decided that my brain must
be full and that is why nothing sticks........so time to find
a new brain that has space to fill.......that's my excuse and
I'm sticking to it.

I really wanted to go to the Cape Fear Poultry Show tomorrow but I have been really sick and am just finally starting to get better so I won't be going in case the long drive and big day would cause me to backtrack on the healing process.
Hope everyone has a great time out there and enjoys the chickens! :)
