North Carolina

Just passing the word, but I've got our old coop and run pieces up on the For Sale section. Will need local pickup, and I really just want it gone so I'm pretty open to offers.

Hope everyone's enjoying the warm(er) weather! lol.

It's quiet in here!!

Well, bird related, a family friend has been hunting ducks but doesn't eat them. So I acquired 4 (possibly more on the way) and have been learning how to clean and dress duck. The most I've ever done in the past is quail and they are SO much easier since you can just skin them, and they don't have a bunch of pellet holes in them.
So I guess when the time comes to process a chicken, it will be super easy compared to these ducks. So many feathers!!!!

Any tips for getting the tiny down feathers out that are too small to pluck?

This link was posted earlier for Mule City Feeds which is good quality feed and reasonably priced. There might be one close to your area.

I bought a bag a few days ago, and of course my chickens loved it. They will eat anything that comes in pellet. The only thing that bothers me is the size of the pellet. I'm used to much smaller ones.

We are still in the process of moving into new place in Cameron. Last chickens are still at my girlfriends' place in Broadway - but the ducks disappeared... :(

As to processing and getting rid of the pin feathers - burn them off w/ one of the long stick butane lighter "thingys"...

Why can't you skin them? The last ducks I did (been a while) - we skinned - sssoooo much easier!

I buy mine directly from the mill in Benson and get the crumbles which is a lot better for my flock because they don't like the size of the pellets either. The pellet size is a little large. And it creates waste. Maybe the store you get it from can get the crumbles.

Sorry to hear about your ducks :(

Thanks for the tip! I will try singing those tiny feathers off with these last two. :)
I don't want to skin them because I'd be losing all that wonderful juicy duck fat. :)

Good morning y'all.

I have 3 weeks left before I leave for the Philippines and I need to find a new rooster for my flock before leaving. I am looking for an Australorp to put new blood line in my flock. So I was wondering if anyone in the Johnston County or near by area might have one they were willing to part with. Or maybe some of you have knowledge of someone that may have one. I currently have 20 BA hens. Thanks for any help.
