North Carolina

it at this point. What I don't understand is why they are killing the surviving birds.
Those birds surely have built a resistance to the virus and why can't they be used
to create a vaccine or resistant flock? After all Mother Nature is doing that with the

I agree. People panic, including so-called "experts." One example was this past summer when Mt. Healthy tested positive for a concerning strain of salmonella. A self-proclaimed chicken expert took to FB and told his followers to kill their flocks if they had gotten chicks from there. Numerous people were killing flocks of hundreds of birds on his say-so. Nevermind having closed flocks etc.......

People have a tendency to freak out and react instead of thinking calmly and evaluating the situation rationally. *sigh*

Good morning folks. Got the siding yesterday from Jefferson South Carolina. What a trip pretty country down there 4 hour round trip. Beautiful wood it was cut down Monday and sawed up and on back of the truck yesterday morning now that's freash! Got a few pieces on but going to hit it hard today. Everyone have a great day. Alan

Our chicken houses are all sided with rough-cut lumber, too. Love that stuff! Our small coops in the breeding pens are made with recycled lumber. Both are good sound wood that is less expensive by far than buying pressure-treated lumber! well, we still use pressure treated for anything on the ground, but the rest.... rough-cut or re-purposed!

Got a lot done today. Should be chicken ready by this weekend.

Looks great! I like the overlapping boards!
I've debated between matching our house (barn red with white trim), or our outbuildings (50+ year old rough lumber). They've got some nice grey stains these days that mimic the "patina" of old wood... But I did finally settle on the barn red with white trim. Are you finishing yours or leaving it natural?
I'm thinking once chicken math sets in... I'll have to build an "outbuilding" for my coop. That'll have to match the other outbuildings, of course! ;)

The wood is really green. Like it was a living tree Monday. It will take a year to be dry enough to paint but I can put Thomson water seal on it in a few weeks. I've been looking at some color scheme I would like to do it in. For the next year it's going to be natural

Ooohhh! Love that color kittie!!
Luckily we're on 14 acres so we don't have to worry about neighbors... The folks in our old neighborhood would've had a heart attack if I had a coop like yours. They insisted having chickens "negatively affected their portfolios".... So we moved! ;)
