Good morning folks

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We managed to sort through
and relocate a few-ish cockerels. Many thanks to doubleatraining for
helping me out by taking them. Now we just need for some of those
pullets to start laying so I know what I'm keeping.

Speaking of coops, I'm starting construction on a new one and Ofcourse that "one neighbor" called another neighbor saying I was starting a whole chicken farm and was going to stink up and ruin the whole neighborhood! Really?? So two questions please??
1) I live in Guilford County ( outside city limits) and can't find any laws or ordinances about keeping chickens here. Does anyone know?
2) also just a poll question.. How many chickens do you have on how much land?
( I have around 50 on about an acre :) )
Thanks!!

I wonder if they are comparing /thinking of the commercial {Perdue} chicken houses. Those absolutely DO stink, and from a distance.

I would find out and do some education, if that's the case. Apples and monkeys, imo.

I don't really count because I'm surrounded by hundreds of acres of farm land and I can't really even see my nearest neighbor, but I've got around 95, including guineas. Being this rural is ideal for guineas.

Soggy, soggy, soggy.
The chickens are tired of rain.
The dogs are tired of rain.
The rabbits are tired of rain.
The humans are tired of rain.

We are going on strike against rain.

We have 22 chickens on 3 acres...plus a horse and a donkey. I think it has a lot more to do with the way properties are set up than the size necessarily. The back of our property can't be developed, for example. I'm just glad to be living next to neighbors that don't intentionally let their dogs roam 24/7 and think it's my problem when they come on my property and kill my chickens, because I have had that problem before!

I awakened to 44 degrees this morning. I got out fed the chickens and watered them. I picked up a couple of eggs. It was cloudy in these mtns. 2 hrs later it was pouring hominey snow. ( hominey snow is little balls of ice, not flakes.) Things got very white and pretty.

I was glad i had fed up. Three hrs later the snow is gone and the temp is still falling at 32 degrees!

I found a petition for my area my new house is zoned in, asking for Fuquay to allow chickens. I know a lot of you guys aren't in the Raleigh/ Fuquay area, but if I posted the link to the petition would some of you check it out? it has 74 signatures now and it needs 100....

heres some of what they are asking in the petition...then they include the ordinance list:

"We are a group dedicated to changing the local regulations in the town of Fuquay Varina, NC for raising backyard chickens.

Raising Chickens:
*are easy and inexpensive to maintain(when compared to most other pets)
*produce eggs that are fresh, great-tasting &nutritious
*are chemical-free bug and weed control
*manufacture the worlds best fertilizer
*are fun & friendly pets with personality

By supporting and signing this petition you are telling the town of Fuquay Varina know we want the regulations on raising backyard chickens changed. Help us in the efforts of letting every resident who wants to be able to raise chickens in their backyard as pets, provide sustainably hormone-free, antibiotic-free, cruelty-free nutritious eggs as well as excellent organic compost for gardens to their family and friends, and teach their children and the community to nurture and care for animals of all kinds do so.

If you are a Fuquay Varina resident, please note that in the comment section of the signed petition."

PLEASE let me know if you could take part in this and I can post the link :) I couldn't imagine my family without chickens
