It's been a pretty sucky day today. Been house-bound all day because of the sleety stuff. But worst of all I found out this morning that my Great-Grandma died sometime during the night.

She was 107, and lived a full, happy and healthy life, but I still can't help but be broken~hearted about her loss. Sorry to be all sad all over the thread... I just wanted to talk about it a little. ;~;

In lighter news, my chicks seem to be doing okay. A bit over a week old now, and they seem to be no worse for wear in this cold cold weather!

Do you need a Buff Orpington Roo? I have a friend with an extra...very nice rooster and good to his girls.

I think I've all but decided to get chicks from a hatchery for most of the hens that go broody, probably Wyandottes and/or Brahmas. If Mother Clucker goes broody, though, (100% hatch rate for two years!) I may get some eggs from a friend who has leghorn hens and the Buff Roo I mentioned above :p

You're just up the street from me! I'm down near Rolesville. I have no Orpingtons, and only one Wyandotte. Boy is she mean to the other girls!

It would probably be a few weeks, maybe early March?
I sent an email asking to see pics of the eggs so I can get more info when they respond. I'm assuming they are not true Americaunas/Ameraucanas but for my back yard purposes I am well OK with EEs.
Did you ever hear back from this lady? Did she send you pictures of the parent stock? Would be interesting to know.

Yay, an almost neighbor!!! I love my Wyandottes...I have two hens that I got with my original flock...they are tough girls for sure!

Well, we made out with mostly sleet, thank goodness. Was glad to not lose power in these temps. The weather doesn't seem to be phasing the girls...egg production steady ticking up...got my first full dozen yesterday!

MistyLea, I'm sorry about your great-grandma. I love the smile on her face, and her laugh lines tell me she smiled a lot! She must have been a wonderful person to know growing up. I'm sure you'll miss her.
