When birds are moved, it can stop their laying (they will lay whats in the shoot so to say but stop afterwards). This can last for awhile while the birds get use to their new home. Stress can also cause birds to stop laying. Good uck with the ladies.

Thanks! I figured they were just taking a while to adjust. I'll keep watching and waiting and spoiling my girls:)

Happy Easter y'all! I gave Margo and Cecelia a good talking to about getting in them laying boxes and giving up some eggs! Lol! When I was a kid I used to put a golf ball in the nest to trick them into starting up. So tonight I snuck in a couple of the kids plastic Easter eggs in the laying box. Maybe the girls will get the idea. Any advise on helping them to lay better. They are light Sussex and black Australorp that were hatched last May, so almost a year old. Thanks!
mine took a year to lay. the eggs will definitely help. i had to physically pick up one of the hens and place her inside the nest. she stood there studying it and a few days later laid her first egg there.

Good morning folks

I hope everyone had a great Easter. I had a good time
helping the grandbabies color some eggs last weekend.
I think they did a great good and made some very pretty
eggs. It's going to be a busy week but I hope to get time
to plant some in the garden.

Hallow, I found it at TSC I think. I know they have it but not sure about Southern States. Their website is www.durvet.com. I hope that it works. Does say to wash hands after mixing it up. Comes with a scoop so if you want to only mix I think a pound or two of feed you can do it that way too instead of a whole 50 lb bag.

I think I spoke to someone on here that has blue laced red wyandotte chicks and had family they visit often near trinity nc?

My source for blrw chicks fell thru. I'm looking for a few!

The chickweed around our house is insane right now so the chickens are feasting :p I've been waiting for a broody but not a one so far. I'm thinking about separating my purebred Brahma rooster and hens so that if I do get a broody, I can sub in their eggs. Maybe the Laced Wyandotte hens too since I love how the coloring of the hens from that mix last year turned out. I've been pretty happy with their production too...getting 16-18 eggs per day from a flock of 21...some of the hens are 2-4 years old.

Has anyone tried straw bale gardening? Debating on whether I should rent a tiller or try the straw bale thing...
