What kind of spider is this? No red on the belly. Just the back. I'm pretty sure it is a black widow but I just wana make sure. I freaking walked right through her web on my front porch. I almost peed my pants when I saw it! I am TERRIFIED of spiders. Had to wake DH up to kill it. Now he's upset he killed it. I'm like its a freaking highly venomous spider for Gods sake!!!!

omg !

Wee went to the Gso show. Had a great time looking at all the birds. Didn't stay for the whole thing. Not sure what all goes on toward the end of a show. I hate that I don't know or recognize any of the folks on here. I would really like to get to know some (or ALL!) of y'all. Someone said something about wearing something to identify ourselves. That sounds like a good idea. I guess I could wear a big banner, Something like "I'm in NC and need help!" Any way, had a good time just looking and walking around looking a little dumb, lost, or otherwise out of place! Hope to see, meet and, or talk with some of you soon! My chickens are doing great. Might add 3 or 4 Silver laced wyandotts soon. I have a friend that knows someone who has 5-6 week old birds for sale!

There is a spider called a False Widow that looks exactly like a Black Widow
but does not have the red markings. They are not suppose to be venomous
according to the park ranger who was telling us about them. Try doing a
google search on False Widow spiders for more information.

My wife, kids and I were at the show but didn't get there til about 10:30. Talked to a few guys in the local foul fancier clubs. I really enjoyed the show and so did my son. Loved the big roosters at the back of the building. My kids loved the silkies! I'd love to meet y'all as well. Got our first two eggs from our girls this weekend. Couldn't be happier:)

I thought my Hampshire red rooster was big until I saw that one. Mine is about 1/3 smaller than that one. Lots of small birds, I'm more interested in full size birds for my flock. I did have a good time looking at all the different types of chickens.

just checking in to see how everyone has been!
i havent popped in on this thread on a while! the weather has been so nice this past week besides the bad storms we had. i took my easter chicks out for some fresh air and started building a new coop!

still trying to get rid of one of my roosters since i hatched so many chicks! dont you wish you could keep them all? LOL

Rollins Diagnostic up near the vet school. State testing facility. Cost is minimal. $30 covered six birds IIRC. Your vet will be familiar with them and can put you in touch.
With the Avian Influenza outbreak and waterfowl being the the prime carriers, getting tested would not be a bad move.

How long after a bird dies do you have to get this done? I had one mysteriously pass yesterday

The birds I took were still alive...barely. But I took a sheep, and had to keep her cold. I'd wrap a bird in several layers and put it in the fridge. They do have a drop off cooler outside. One day I'll tell you about a woman with a leg brace on because of a split kneecap and her friend moving a body at midnight, and the struggles to get it up a ramp and into a chest freezer....

Good morning folks

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I did pop in to look
around at the Fowl Fanciers show in Greensboro. It did seem
to be a small show but a pleasant one. Wish I had met those who went to it.

I made a whirlwind trip to the University of Arkansas last week.
It was quite interesting. I also went to visit DD#3 in Oklahoma
so it was a bit of a full week but a good one.
