North Carolina

Quote: Did the same with some cornish rocks a few years ago. Lost most the hens to egg laying (it does happen) and the two cockerels to heart attacks. I managed to keep one hen til she was 3 years old (had to be quartered to fit into the pot but was still nice and juicy) did some crosses to buff orpingtons and got some big yard birds. Good luck with your ladies.

I had a cross beak that did very well. I didn't do anything special for him, because I feed FF to all and he had no trouble eating it. We had a dog attack that got him.

Sold five of my 2 month old chicks today at the Flock Swap. That cancels out the two Wyandotte chicks I bought at the feed and seed store yesterday, right?

Also, all this rain has caused so much MUCK in the runs! I gotta find somewhere to get some river sand or something...
Plus, four of my Silkies are going broody. AGAIN. Those birds drive me bonkers! They were trying to sit all winter long, so I let them hatch a clutch of mutts, and now they're demanding to do it all over again! Geez girls!

On a more somber note, I had to put down my old man cat yesterday. He came up with a really badly infected wound on the whole side of his face... I know he's not suffering now, but there's still that nagging in the back of my mind that maybe I should have tried to treat him. *sigh* I guess it doesn't matter now...

Anyway, hope y'all have had a less dramatic week than I have!

I'm looking for organic feed in Asheville NC
In case you haven't found any feed yet, Fifth Season on the south slope near downtown has organic feed, as well as a farm on the east side of town in Oakley (can't find their name quickly, but they usually post on Craigslist). Also, Southern States on Riverside carries organic. And Tractor Supply I'm pretty sure...

I am ready for this rain to GO AWAY! I've had to postpone getting my Buff Orpington girls for over a week now

On the bright side..... My Mom hand crafted a sign for my coop that will go lovely with the girls of Park Avenue. Hope you all have a great week ahead. Try to stay dry!
