hey all

Had a hen go broody 27 days ago 24 days ago I counted 13 eggs under her. I have not disturbed her and she has stayed on them almost all the time. So far nothing, I attempted to candle them today couldn't see much the flashlight might not be strong enough.

question I have is what should I do? I need to do some more searching other threads but thought I would ask the folks here. Still learning and first broody.

Did you separate her from the flock? Or is it possible that other hens have been laying in the same broody box? Do you know how many she had under her on day 1?

I am an expert in micro premees.

Lots of new stuff tried on our guys and all very successful!

My next little farmers!
Like dad...grand dad ...great grand dad and great great.....well, you get the picture

My first daughter was born at 36 weeks and the second was born at 30 weeks just 4lbs! Spent 3 weeks in the hospital. Gotta love greenvilles preemie care!

Wow at all the new peeps since I logged on last. I'm a nurse midwife at Camp Lejeune. I am settling in at my parents place in Sneads Ferry and want to get some pullets for that house. I'd like to get older chick's maybe a few weeks old. Any ideas on my best options?

Hello all. Been a few weeks since i posted. I tried a new wormer called Strike III. Seems like it was ok. Didn't seem to hurt any of the chickens. Don't know if it is the weather or the wormer, but seem to be getting a few more eggs. Have several girls that if they don't start producing are going to have to go. Probably go to flock swap somewhere. My daughter says we can't eat them and if we sell them it has to be as pets. We've had them four years now. Pretty much quit laying last summer. Tried changing feed several times but no difference.
I work in a metal fab shop and run a laser that cuts our parts and parts for other customers.

I never realized how many medical professionals were on here! Awesome!

This weekend is my last lock-down for a while. I'll have a couple more hatches over the summer as I work on a project, but I'm mostly done. My fall layers! Woohoo! Some of the older girls will be soup once this batch starts up.

I need to get through the next two weeks with my sanity intact. Then I'll have a bit of recuperation time. I think.

Good morning folks

What do most keep on hand for chicken medical emergency. I have a small horse boarding barn. Worked for the King Ranch in Kingsville, TX, for years then managed a large horse and cattle ranch in New Mexico for 12 years, now back home in North Carolina.

Finally got around to uploading some pics of my coop and my girls! I named the coop "Park Avenue" as an inside joke between me and the wife since we moved from a small town to urban neighborhood. She always said to me "Darlin' I love ya, but give me Park Avenue..... So I did! LOL!" The girls are Margo (australorp) and Cecelia (light Sussex)

I was not setup to have a separate area for a broody hen. Not sure I know she added some the first few days. day 3 was 13 3 got broken day 28 was 24. I know that not much help. Will candle the ones from today and make her a separate spot and see.

I'm president of a nonprofit that provides a night out for families with special needs kids and adults. So I'm home with my feathered babies all the time.
Nursebecky you might can try craigslist for older chicks. If you are on Facebook, there's a group for NC and sc that's selling or looking for chicks you can try that.
