Good morning guys!

So my light Sussex has decided to go broody..... No Roo around, but she still thinks she's gonna be a mama! LOL! Hopefully I can break her from it without her being too mad at me!

I'm afraid my favorite girl Margo the Australorp has got bumble foot.

I read up on the treatment of it, and I think I can handle it. (Good thing I'm a nurse.)

Hopefully I can get her healed up soon before it gets worse.

I love my girls. We're going to the beach in 3 weeks and I'm afraid I'm gonna worry to death about them while we're gone. I gave my neighbor a crash course on chickens and what to do to take care of them while I'm gone. She is so eager to help and has been by several times to help out with the girls. She says she will send me pictures and updates every day while we're gone. LOL!

Y'all have a great weekend!

Hey everyone! I haven't seen that fox in about 2 weeks now. Or my baby possum that seemed to be abandoned. :( that cute little possum would eat cheese right out of my hand. He was literally....a baby. Bout the size of a can of soda. I'm thinking the fox was more interested in eating him than the chickens. Good for chickens bad for little possum. Anyway...I have still been keeping the bantams in their cage at night on the front porch. But now it's hot out and these darned centipedes are INSANE! They r so gross and make me wana pull my hair straight out of my scalp and scream to the top of my lungs! They are getting in my house!!!!!!!!! Killed 2 HUGE ones 2 days ago. 5 were in the shower yesterday. And 3 more this morning! I cannot live like this. So I got some of that spectacled trial ivied spray that you attach to your water hose and sprayed around the front side of the house outside where they are more prominent. I might have gotten a bit of it on the porch where I keep the chickens cage. Should I rinse it off? Or let it dry? I don't want to hurt my babies. I just want to kill all these icky critters. Not to mention we r right on the edge of the woods with a creek pretty much on our back yard. I also killed 2 brown recluse spiders in my kitchen within the last month. And every time I cut grass I get ticks on me and no see ums are tearing my arms and legs apart. I have 13 bites just on my left arm alone. So what I'm asking is it ok if I put the chickens back there?

Hi nd!
I'm looking for a couple laying hens (young but laying already)
I'm really wanting black laced red wyandottes or gold or silver laced wyandottes but will take any good layer breed. My hens are for pets and eggs only so they are promised a good home!
Will take extra free hens or will pay.
Please pm me if you have hens and are near my area.

You need guineas ;)
I'd say as long as the bug spray is dry, your chickens should be safe. I don't love DE, but if I were you I think I'd dust where the centipedes and spiders are seen the most..don't dust anywhere where the wind will blow it or bees can get in it. It will kill bees and that's my main reason for not using it but I have an ant issue every year around this time and I used it in the 2 posts where I saw them all the time and haven't see one since.
But in all seriousness, guineas are great for stuff like that..personally I think they're the best bug exterminators

And sorry about your lil opossum :(

ETA: I HATE spiders..like cry, pee a lil and get all shaky kinda hate.. so I sympathize. .don't have many centipedes here, thank goodness
