This should be a nice story for the morning wake-up ,have coffee, read BYC time, before the day's madness hits high speed! Or as some will put it (the Sh** hits the high speed air mover)Been a lurker here for a couple of years. FINALLY got Hubby talked into letting me have some hens, (by forgoing my anniversary present for the next 4 years lol) we figure to get a tractor in August, I know it is late to start but hey, gotta strike when the iron is hot KWIM? Any way I am from Davie County born and bred. Advance girl all my life. I now live on what used to be the family farm, with
my imported husband (He was born in Rhodesia, what is now called Zimbabwe) and raising our Daughter to love country life!
I popped back on byc to research stuff and was surprised to find so many pages of posts from NC! Even saw one from my home town where I still live (Advance, NC) How cool is that! So anywhoo, I plan on about 8 chickens, I have found the guy to build my tractor, Kinda figured out where to get what I want. So now am playing around and figuring out names. Katieboo (my darling daughter) insists on a couple of EE's to be named Rainbow and Skittles, While I like big ol' fluffy hens with little old lady names like Henrietta, and pearl lol. We shall see! I look forward to getting to know all of you and will post pics of the coop and flock when they finally arrive!
I love telling the story of how I met my husband! The simple answer is we met at work, I was a receptionist for a local company that financed outdoor power equipment. Our computer programmer was from Africa and had recently gotten married. My Hubby was his childhood friend who came over for the wedding and stayed (this was in July of 2001) So any way since he was going to be here a while his friend was able to get him some contract work with our company. I knew I was doomed when I first spoke to him. I had a hard time understanding his accent, so I told him he needed to slow down, that I loved the accent but couldn't understand what he was saying. He leaned forward and slowly said, "you may like my accent, but yours makes me go weak in the knees" I was a goner after that though it took me some time to realize that lol. We actually didn't start dating until several months later, but became really good friends. When his job with our company was finished he took another contract in London, because he didn't want to return to Africa at that time. He had been gone about 2 weeks when we realized that we missed each other as more that friends. We considered ourselves exclusive after that point even though it wa a long distance relationship carried out over the phone and internet. Almost exactly one year later he came back to the states and we were married 4 months later in June. This is of course the "Reader's Digest condensed version" lol This year we will have been married 12 years, and I still thank God for him every day!
