Granite Falls as well! Glad I found another chicken person in my area! Raising egg layers for 6 yrs.
So, "LooperChickens"… just wondering if you might be any relation to my grandpa Charles Looper who was born in Hiddenite, NC. He's been in FL since childhood, but still has family up here. My husband and I just happened to end up moving from Tampa, and eventually made our way here to Mocksville, not far from Hiddenite. :)

Yes we may be be related, my family originally came from Hiddenite and moved to Granite falls.

Put a tarp over the run to try and keep some of this rain out and mud down. Spread out some straw and the girls seem to love it! Scratching away and clucking like a bunch of fat happy bitties! Lol

With the wet weather, my poor chickies have not had as much tractor time. Today, I hung a cabbage in the run and tossed in a chicken treat ball toy. They seem pretty happy now!

My girls are getting bored, I need to put some stuff out for them. I did make a hanging scratch toy out of a small water bottle with holes in it. They were terrified. Would not go near it, so I had to take it out. Maybe I need to put it in and let them roll it on the ground.

LOL Poor things - mine usually are scared of new things, too. I put out a hanging bird seed cake (the bell shaped ones). They were freaked - it took them a good while before they realized it was not going to eat them. Silly things.

So, I've been working on making the chicken pen completely accessible from outside since our roo only likes me. Barring getting rid of him (I've been forbidden - lol), this was my best option. I made rolling nest boxes out of rubbermaid bins with an opening in back. Then I installed a kitty door that we can reach through to collect eggs! It's been great! Now I'm working on an inside barrier that can be closed off from outside so they can be fed and watered. I couldn't find a good year-long solution for watering completely from outside. I'd love ideas, though!
