North Carolina

I'd like to praise the service I got at Carolina Town & Country in Sanford on Friday.

I'm afraid that I forgot to write down the name of the helpful woman who never lost patience with the multiple people asking her the same questions about the shipment of chicks that had been delayed in the mail and who was so knowledgeable and thoughtful.

She helped me pick out two probably SLW's from the "Assorted Wyandotte bin and didn't grudge me the extra minutes it took to decide on breeds after discovering that the hatchery hadn't sent the Delawares.

No affiliation, just a first-time customer appreciative of good service.
I was born in Sanford almost 5 decades ago, and moved out 2 years later. Haven't been back since 1984 and I was living in NY by then. After spending most my life either in NY or overseas or in the Military. I am back in NC and need an excuse to go see the place where I was born so maybe I will stop by Carolina Town and Country. I wonder if they were open in 1974 when I was born?

Our new country property gives us the choice between Sanford and Aberdeen for our shopping so we went up there 2 weeks ago to check it out and went into that store -- discovering that they still had chicks (and will have chicks at least through July).

After getting everything in order we went back this past Friday to get our babies.

Had breakfast at The Brass Kettle and enjoyed it. I've never lived anywhere that had more abundant options for a good breakfast out than central NC.

Hi fellow N. Carolinians!
We’re in the Piedmont Triad area and we got our first chicks a month ago. We have 6 D’Uccles and it looks like 3 of them are roos. We can’t have roosters and I could return them to the breeder but they will end up in the stew pot! We have gotten so attached to them that I can’t bear to take them back. I’m really hoping I can find a good home for these sweet boys. They are show quality d’Uccles—2 Mille Fleur and 1 Porcelain—5 weeks old. I’m willing to drive a little distance to meet someone if I can be assured these guys are getting a good home. Thanks for looking!

Oh dont you hate that, the sweet ones your most attached to always turn out to be roos! I wish I could help but I've already got too many roos as is and more babies I just hatched 🤦‍♀️ I can send you a facebook group I found for NC where you can post them if you'd like. I'm sure you wont have any problems getting someone since they're show quality 😊

That would be great—thanks!!

Near Statesville? Good news on feed, G & M Milling has very low prices on Chicken Feed.

I go once a month and stock up on feed. I promote them when ever I get the chance because I want to make sure they do not go out of business. I don't want to pay Southern States prices for feed. Although its good feed at a good price, this place is so much cheaper that its worth the extra $10 in gas I spend to go there.
Their starter feed is not medicated, it can be used as all flock feed. So can the Flock Finisher which is the same feed as the starter but in pellet form. $11 for a 50 pound bag. their 16% layer feed is $11.50 and does just as good as brand name feeds. Their 21% natural Layers feed increased my hatch rates on chickens I was breeding. Before I switched to their feed I would have 10-15% of my eggs not develop, after I switched to their feed it was close to 0% not developing. Their 28% Gamebird Feed is just $13, I mix it with their starter feed at a ratio that gives me 25% and use that as my meat bird feed. They have Grit and Oyster shells too, never got mine there so I am not sure what size of bag goes with that price but I am certain its as cheap as they can get it to you. I have met the owner and he is super nice, so are the ladies that take your order and the people who work the warehouse. I always leave their feed mill with a smile on my face.

Hello all! I live near Pinehurst, NC and I have a total of 4 ducks, 20 chickens, a lionhead rabbit, and 15 eggs sitting under a broody hen! A lot going on! The breeds of chickens I have are- Seramas, Silkies, Barred Rocks, and two mixed breeds! If anyone is interested I will be having Seramas hatching out in about a week and I can sell SR chicks or wait 4-6 weeks to sex them! They will be a mixture of smooth feathered and frizzled!
