North Carolina

Have a rooster about 8 months old. Been pretty mellow up to now. He has become very protective of the 8 hens and recently starting lunging at us. It may be a stage not sure but we have grandkids that visit and do not want to take a chance with him.
I had the same issue with a slikie rooster...but things change, they change - my rooster is very mellow now

How's everyone doing with all this rain?

I'm wishing I had figured out a way to stockpile dry pinestraw so I could give the ladies some fresh bedding in the pen -- even the most sheltered areas are getting mucky in this downpour.

I'd taken it too much for granted that all I need is a couple days of sun to rake up more when I needed it.

its terrible...lost a rooster because of the cold i guess, chick run is a mud puddle...only one that likes this is my Pekin duck Fiona....:)

Sorry to hear of your loss.

The one advantage to living on several hundred feet of sand is the excellent drainage and near-total lack of mud.
ah u must live near the ocean..... i'm near asheville in marshall. mud in the mountains !! here's a pic of my JiJi I lost - he was beautiful!
