North Carolina

Is there anyone here that lives near Greenville, NC? I ask because I'll be in that area on the 7th and 8th to hopefully get some ducks. I have four lonely drakes, but no hens. Just thought I'd network here first.

Happy new years eve!!! I promise to be a complete chicken NUT this year! Oatmeal and apples, almost ate it on the way to the coop it smelled so good! Conan was not quite the Gent either. He smelled the warm apples steaming from the sec I stepped out side. What a hit!
So I have got my freebie styro- bator with fan kit. When I'm collecting my eggs, should I put them in the fridge till I'm ready to set them, I only want one birds eggs this time, obviously she can't lay 12 at once. I have four so far!
I plan to build a cabinet soon, but can't resist the urge to hatch!!
Enjoy a safe and peaceful NewYear!

Good Morning Neighbors

Greenskeeper~~I store eggs in an egg carton, in a cool, dark room. I elevate one end of the carton, and rotate the elevation each day when I add eggs. Conan isn't a bit spoiled, is he? lol

So excited that we will be in the 40's today....got some barn cleaning to do....that's always fun

Tbird, CoffeeCow~~~I'm sure you'll already know this, but be very careful if you buy birds at an auction. The health is always questionable; make sure you QUARANTINE.

Kathie~~glad you finally got out!! frozen oatmeal?? now that's COLD

Happy New Years Eve everyone

Good point Batcave.

I wasn't planning on buying from there, but I have a nice little EE cockerel that I need to get rid of. He is a good little guy, I hate to cull him ( I have grown attached to him) but I am wanting to raise Delawares instead of EE's. I can't find anyone around here that wants him, and figured this may be his only hope from freezer camp.

I'm pretty set on chickens, getting a dozen Delaware hatching eggs this spring, and after that, no more.. I may sell some at some point, but not buy any more.

We are looking to get some goats next year. I may be able to find a breeder there with some mini nubians

Tbird~~I just remembered, there's a member on here "Steve of Sands Poultry" or something like that. He's in Eastern NC...don't know exactly where.....and he has all kinds of poultry. Maybe you could check with him

Morning everyone! hope your having a great day so far. Got everyone fed and out the door for sledding, so will take a few minutes to say howdy. So I'll just have to live through you all about hatching now, although I do have one hen that would sit in a minute if I let her, too cold though. So everyone get those bators warmed up and cameras sitting by so I can see all the new chicks when they hatch out.

How funny, T & H is where I am going! At the very least, I am going to replace my poor Rouen hen that met an unfortunate fate with a dog.

I've had decent luck there before. At the best, maybe I can get some Sebrights for the husband. They had some last time I was there. Also will get some game hens if they have them to use as broodies. Tired of doing the work myself.

I got eleven eggs from under the nesting boxes today. I am thinking it is about three day's worth. Too bad I could not film me laying on a plastic tarp getting the eggs with the help of one of those grabby things. I figure they are still good, having been in their own outdoor refrigerator. None of them froze and broke either.

I had not thought of warm apples, but I am going to add that tomorrow.

Happy New Year.

Kathie
