I was so worried about my flock of six last night. I had put tarps around the coop (Mine is small) to protect them, and when I got up the snow had drifted against one side completely. However, when I went in with their warm oatmeal, they were snowless and happy.
I put one of those flock blocks from Purina in the coop a few months ago. They have not really eaten it, but Cecil the rooster stands on it to crow.
Thats funny about Cecil, It took mine awhile to start on the flock block but they work on it some everyday, I also hung a head of cabbage in their coop, they like the beets better but they are working on it, happy to hear they are okay, stay warm is what it's all about!
I can hardly believe it's still snowing!!! started sometime during the night and has yet to stop~~12 inches now. Needless to say, the few birds that don't have covered runs, didn't go outside---of course I served them breakfast and their afternoon snack inside
11 eggs went into lockdown today
Didn't get eggs from any of the Silkies today
Forecast says the snow is suppose to continue through tomorrow
can you'll tell I'm having fun playing with the smilies tonight? lol
Did my chores in the snow field today. All my chickens were eating snow. lol. The young ones I was afraid would get too cold so i brought them some very warm water to wash the snow down with. They all loved it.
