Hope all is well and you haven't put out the fire yet, looks like winter is back, Our hose actually thawed out and I was able to wash away some poop, but then it all froze and I was walking on ice this morning. Not long before the ground hog will be making his prediction lets hope it's a good one.... So who's nails are you biting this morning gavin? guess yours are all gone now.lol My little ones are still laying real good, but I have way to many eggs in my fridge, today is egg and ham sandwiches. Probably scramble some for the chickens and dogs too. Well have a good one and talk to ya'll later..

I have been dusting, treating, and cleaning for the last 3 days. This time last year, even with bad weather, the bantam cochins were laying. This year not a single egg. They look fine, but with a closer look I found MITES. Not a few, but nest after nest in the ladies' feathers. Then went on looking and found some among the standard cochins that are both in their own house and the Layers' house. SO the work began.

With all the moisture lately and the houses closed up a little tighter, it made the perfect time for an infestation. It seemed to just be the fluffier birds with the mites, but everyone gets the same treatment.

Today I have 20 hens left to dust and treat. Most of these are nonPets that I will have to get off the roost this evening. All the houses are cleaned with fresh shavings and 7-dust. The birds got the dust and a topical dose of ivomec. Not only does the Ivomec work on the mites, but it will take care of their wormer for the coming spring.

I got it!!!! Wow... Pics to come. Mom already wants it as a show piece, my big Sis wants it for her office. This is a georgeous element of history that is functional! What a gem, can't wait to show it off and use it. Think it holds six hundred eggs? Lol so awesome!!
Woot woot!

Thats a bummer Matt, I went through that back in the fall. I just received Epernix to have on hand when I treat again, no egg withdrawl. Congratulations HT on your new SQ Buffs, more pictures...Wow story what is it? sounds exciting!!! BHep & HT if ya'll were closer I would share mine with you, HT I saw on BYC one time some one bought eggs from Trader Joes and actually hatched some of them. What about that.

Yup.....found mites also. Weirdly only in 1 coop.

But I only had Adams mist on hand, so used that. I did get out and get the seven dust, so I will retreat this weekend. I did an all out clean up of the whole barn and dusted all the roosts etc... *sigh*
