For a second I thought you were calling me a Mean Daddy...LOL...Anyways, I haven't received any any advice yet but everything I am reading says to clean and add something to the water. Who knows what the something is? I hear baking soda, cider, sand etc...Hard to know, so help me out fellow North Carolinians...
Sometimes with pasty butts it could mean that the brooder is just a bit too hot for them.. It can also be from the stress of shipping... To be honest I end up slowly and gently pulling the hard poop ball off as much as possible which removes some of the feathers and makes it harder for the poop to stick to the area again thus helping prevent future pasty butts. You still may want to put a few drops of the infant poly-vi-sol in their water,it really does help. I know you mentioned that you have already lost a few chicks??
