North Carolina

Good morning everybody!! Gah, it's a rainy morning, the world of the day is MUD. It sure is going to help get a kickstart on spring!

Geez, you're not around for just a couple days and look at all this activity!

CONGRATS NH on the chicken convincing!! That's SO exciting!! And so funny about the fertilized issue with your DH. It didn't occur to my husband until months after having a rooster that the eggs he was eating every morning were now fertile. It freaked him out for about 30 seconds before he shrugged and was over it. Can't wait to hear how your coop progresses, you'll have to post pictures of your progress!!

OLF-SOOOO CUTE!! Can't wait to see more pictures!! CONGRATS!

Miss Lydia-Thank you for the sweet note about our hatch and asking about my little Olive Egger. She's still with us, I'm just not sure what to do. The Pen G shots definitely seemed to make her feel better, her appetite is up and she's mobile and relatively interested in free ranging, doesn't seem to be in any pain, definitely not moving at full speed, but not giving up either. The abscess (or whatever it is) is just not getting any better. At all. I'm not going to give up on her, as long as she wants to keep fighting, I'll keep providing care, but I just don't know how long she can last in this limbo phase. We'll see... Thanks for the sweet thoughts though.

Veleda-I actually have a lady coming today to pick up a few, I'm not sure how many she'll be getting. How many would you be interested in? If I end up with any left, I'll definitely let you know! Where in NC are you?

Thanks everyone, haven't even checked the hatcher yet this morning to see if anything is going on.

The concrete slab is already there and it measures 10' x 20' ... I had assumed we were going to build a floor on top of it, and use it as just the foundation, but my husband had other plans!

Regardless...we should be getting started this weekend!!
Quick question: will pine needles bother/harm the chickens? (there's a pine tree right behind the coop spot...don't know if we should chop the tree down (fire wood) or not. Thanks!!

HT - LOVE the photos!!

I did see the link that BHep shared a while back on incubators...I was stoked because they have a whole classroom kit!! Trying to decide if we want the classroom kit or if it would be better to have our children learn from the hens themselves. I can see pros and cons for both. The LARGE con for the incubator...I hear it's CONTAGIOUS!! I'm afraid of catching baby fever worse than what I already have!!

Well...since everyone's showing pictures of their hatch...I thought I'd join in the fun. Here's my hatch from 8 months ago!!

AHHHH!!!! SO PRECIOUS!!! Look at those beeeautiful eyes! ETA: I meant the baby, of course, but the cat is a total cutie too!

My DH and I are still a couple years off from having kids, but dang, cute baby pictures definitely make the biological clock tick louder! HA!

Weighing the two out dollar wise, incubator fever is still "cheeper"! Lol. That said;being the youngest of eight, never hurts to have a few helpers around the house!
I can't help the bad puns! They were dropped in my gene pool by a Goonie bird, 15 generations past.

Awww... too cute! Mine is trying to be all grown up darn it! I keep telling her to shrink and get smaller... she just won't though.
