So I just had to tell you all my afternoon....spent the day sewing and when the DH came home, he and I went outside to do some much needed yard work. He mowed the lawn while I was ALLOWED to TILL the garden area. I managed to till the 25x45' area all by myself!!
lau.gif
the only bad thing I did was I managed to get a giant rock stuck in the blades which the DH had to dislodge. Then, I managed to get a clump of mud stuck and had to have the DH dislodge it.

Good thing the dirt was wet....otherwise I might have had real issues. He even waited until I was inside to kill the wasps nest too.

I now have three pips and the first one is working away on his hole, I would expect him to be out before night end. Still no signs from the silkie eggs though.

Hey everyone! My hubby and I were able to get some work done on the coop today.
smile.png
Well, not a lot done to the coop itself but we are using recycled lumber so we went through the wood pile and pulled out everything we need to start the wall frames first thing in the morning. I also got the tiles put down on the floor. 2 of my 5 silkie babies have names now! I am pretty sure about their sexes (def not 100% though) so the girl? is Lucy and the boy is Ricky. We also got a call from our neighbor yesterday, she had a death in her family and had to go out of town. She asked if we could check on her goats and chickens for the weekend. We went over today and she has a slkie roo! He is a cutie and he knows it

I will get pics on her as soon as I get a new camera, the one I just bought takes really crappy pictures.

Evening everyone! Busy day - I missed out on a lot!!! How are the chicks coming along HT??? I cannot wait to see pictures!!!

Woke up this morning with my son's crud and my little one seems to be coming down with it, too.

No fun! I'm hoping it doesn't put too big of a damper on coop progress tomorrow. The plan for the weekend is to dig out and put in a french drain system around the front and sides of the run - our yard is downward sloping and we're concerned about washout and muddy run issues. So then we'll build up the run and hopefully be good to go. And underneath the gravel of the french drain will be our hardware cloth apron to prevent digging! We are also hoping to set all the posts. So I hope hubby can make it happen without much help from me!!

And I am cautiously being a bit more optimistic about my Cochin eggs. They are just so weird! The air sacs are all wonky but I swear a couple of my ? eggs I saw a bit of movement. Still didn't see any veining, but I really think I saw some movement. Are cochin eggs just especially thick or something??? So weird. But now I'm definitely not throwing any out. I'm pretty sure a fair number of them are totally clear, but I'm not taking any chances!

My other eggs are due to hatch a week from tomorrow!!!
yippiechickie.gif
And they are looking great! I finally bit the bullet and cracked open one of my Marans eggs I was pretty sure was clear, but being so dark wanted to be sure. And it was, thank goodness. But that leaves 16 that are looking really good! They are so big in there I don't really imagine there would be much use in continuing to candle them though - it's hard to see much in there! I've read about lots of folks candling going into lockdown but can you really see much? Oh, and I've got my hatcher just right! Holding steady at 100 degrees and 60-65% humidity. Sound good??

Vfem - I will have to check out that store! I've got to get the last of my supplies ready!! I did order food - Countryside Organics - from Horseshoe Bend Farm. They were so nice and helpful and I pick up a 4 month supply next week!!! Exciting!

Good luck working on coops and hatching chicks and whatever else y'all are all up to this weekend!! HT - gotta keep updating and of course posting pics!!!!!! Good luck!!
