Ok, I have wanted to ask this question for a long time, but figured it would show what a novice I am. Here it goes: If you have broody hens, why would you use an incubator? My resistance to hatching in an incubator or buying day old chicks is that unless they are hatched by the hens, they have to go through that terrible acceptance time where they get picked on. If I am off here, please let me know because I would love to introduce tiny babies and not have to order Polish chicken eggs. My Silkies have made great mamas, but that is with eggs they have hatched.

I appreciate all the knowledge here.

Gavin, I am happy to report that not only had the DH been stalking this thread and reading everyone's comments...he came home and started working up a blueprint (of types) for you and even told me to remind you that he's offered to help you build your run - or another coop!! I think he's afraid of having "nothing" to do once the coop is finished!!

I'm not sure, but he's thinking we'll have the barn completed this weekend!!

!! Anyway....I will be sending you the prints once he's finished and I get them scanned, if you still want them!! :alu if not, just pretend!! haha.

Evening All, finally got a chance to take a few pics of my weekend hatch. My first ever hatched silkies, they are soo cute! And my seven cochins. Can't wait to see them start to feather out to tell what colors they really are.

Question for all you pros - with this storm coming my humidity is at 60% right now in my incubator!!! I have no water in there of course (only have a couple of days when the atmospheric humidity was really low) but should I be concerned? I mean, I guess if a broody was hatching them it would be even higher, right? Is there a way to decrease humidity? I figure you guys are used to this crazy NC humidity and would be the best to ask. Thanks!!!!!!

DW picked our new chicks at Champion in Dunn yesterday. They were supposed to have a shipment of Comets but she got Light Brahmas. All pullets. I think she was enamored with the fuzzy knees.

I think some you have experience with Brahmas, can you share any info?

You all are making it SO difficult to wait to get my chicks. I want them NOW!!

I suppose once the barn is largely finished then I can...and that should be this weekend. Because of that

I'm not going to the Greensboro show, but that's ok...because it's more important to get the building BUILT!!

I hope everyone is okay!! We had some fierce winds out here and my DH kept looking to "check" on the barn. "Yup, still standing" he would reply!! I think he's so adorable...he's afraid it's not structurally sound - even though the was playing monkey bars on the rafter beams...yeah. Did anyone suffer any damage?

Love those pictures HT, and congrats on ya'lls hatches.. tomorrows hatch day for my little frizzle. as of last night i had a total of 6 hens sitting on eggs will see this morning how many were serious. We had some pretty bad storms during the night and lost power but all is well up here. just cold and actually had snow falling a little earlier yesterday it was in the 70's. All about hope your mom is feeling better. Ruthann you'll have to start thinking about your chicks now that you have your barn just about finished. what breeds did you decide on? and daver you'll love those Brahmas they are the sweetest and lay awesome eggs. ya'll have a great day and stay warm..
