North Carolina

I guess I should join in and introduce myself, My name is Justin and I live in the Harnett County part of Spring Lake and I am stationed on Ft. Bragg. I currently have one white leghorn, one barred rock, one austrolope, one ??? (no clue what it is) and one black giant that are all grown. I also have three barred rock's, a white silkie, and a cochin that are all around a month old. Next week I should receive my Cackle Hatchery Surprise order so I should have lots of interesting fuzzy butts by the 13th.

BHep I lived near Endicott/Vestal NY in a small small town not too many have heard of. I also lived in Liberty NY and Kiamesha Lake area while I was going to college at Sullivan County Community College. Man, just had a flood of memories flash through my mind.

I would occassionally go to the track with my Father when he visited.

Okay tell me what lock down is. Is it the last hours until the chicks hatch and you don't have to turn the eggs anymore??

Lockdown..... last three days of incubation. No turning No touching

Ooo and there will be lots of chicks available around here about Easter time. If you follow the thread in my signature line for Mahorni's Easter Hatch, something like 4700 eggs were set.

Plus I hatch like crazy....have 50 something chicks now and about 200 eggs in the incubator.

Better post pics when your babies get in! We love pics!!!

And Bird Collector, yes - lockdown is the last 3 days of pre-hatch insanity. I'm obviously a first timer and a mess!

Thanks, Bhep! Happy to report that temp is 100 and humidity 65% for about an hour and a half now!!!!! I forgot to mention that I candled last night and all 16 were looking great with what I think are perfect air cells according to the chart on here except for 1 of the Orpington eggs which was huge and almost like a double?? Kinda hard to describe, but I thought you pros might be able to tell me if you think it may be ok????? I'm guessing bigger is much better than too small, right?? I hope it's ok!

It occurred to me a while ago that I really have lost it - I had the thought "well, at least with the baby waking up every 2 hours I'll be able to come check on the eggs..."

Yes, my almost 6 month old still wakes up every 2 hours.
