NH...Scambled eggs, yogurt, frozen (thawed) peas. Even their chick starter in you hand to get used to you. My older chickens eat just about anything & everything including leftover chicken
gig.gif
I leave out water & food 24/7.
p.s. chickens act like they are starved all the time when it comes to treats.

HT.... I already got rid of 5 of them. I have 9 left. I did get rid of the brown ones. Only 1 has feathered legs

I will get some pics tomorrow. They are only 1 month old.

everyone!

Happy to say my little guy did great in his surgery! The whole thing went much smoother than expected! But, my other son may have broken his foot while spending the day with his Grandma...

The chicks are doing great and tomorrow is the expected hatch day for my 1 little Cochin egg! Ooooh, I hope it hatches!

NH, my son's favorite 1st bday gift was his red wagon. It's a plastic one with 2 flip-up seats with belts so he can ride safely in it or then flip the seats down and fill it up with sticks and rocks and all that good stuff. He loved it from day one and almost a year later he still plays with it constantly! So that's my vote! He also spends a ton of time with his play kitchen and at his lego table. She may seem young but they grow up so fast!
hit.gif
And I'm using a tote for my chicks and it is working nicely. I had a ton for scmy wild bunnies - I cut most of the plastic out of the lids and screwed in hardware cloth. But mine are just little things. My next step plan is an old kids play pen that is no longer suitable for kids! I still have to figure out a top for that one...

EFudd, I went with Countryside Organics feed (www.countrysidenatural.com) and we were just talking here about www.northcarolinaorganicfeed.com that you could check out, too!

BirdCollector - thank you for the laugh!!!

That is too cute!!!

Gotta go snuggle my chickies and clean out the brooder! Good night!

I heard some soft peeping early this morning. That would have been the first pips in to an aircell.

NOW I SEE A DENT IN A SHELL!!!
wee.gif

The first pip of my first hatch of the year. Not pipped the membrane yet, but a shell has a definate dent. All 30 eggs looked good, but I am afraid the air cells were on the small side. I hope the humidity was not too high.

I think Lacy, birchen bantam cochin, may actually have a chick, but she won't let me see. She growls and starts clucking. I know I heard a soft peep answer her before I closed the house for the night. I will pester her tomorrow. She got 8 eggs from the bator. She will get 12 chicks at most.

Good Early morning everyone!!
Had a rough night last night. DD woke up for the second time screaming in the middle of the night...she was still asleep, so I am assuming a bad dream or bad teething pain - just didn't think babies dreamed. Anyway, if that wasn't bad enough, once I was awake...I realized how ITCHY I was.
barnie.gif
My poison ivy has spread from just my right arm to my entire body.
hit.gif
guess I am still highly allergic like I use to be as a kid. Haha...the DD likes to try and scratch/poke at it for me. Talk about TORTURE!!
lau.gif

Today is a busy day of errands. DD goes to the doctors in the morning, then we're swinging by TS to get feed - NO CHICKS and a few items, then we're driving from Knightdale to Garner to pick up some hardware cloth from AgriSupply so we can get the doors and windows of the coop done. Sure hope my car is big enough for all that I am buying!!
lau.gif
My DH was up and at work by 4am this morning and is hoping to get home while there's still light out so he can work on getting the cloth installed so Friday night he would only have to worry about putting the windows in (or building the doors) and Saturday morning we'd put in the windows or the doors on - whatever didn't get finished the night before. Speaking of windows, I did have a question: We have a security light on our property that will face the run & 2 of the 4 windows...should we install shutters or something to keep the light out at night? It's solar powered, so it comes on and off on it's own and we don't have a "switch" for it. Will that little amount of light affect the girls when they get older? I would say it's about as bright as a very bright full moon night...maybe a tad brighter. Also, what "age" do they need to be fed "scratch?"

SCM - SO glad to hear the little guy was a trooper!! Sending

his way regardless!! Thanks for the gift idea too!!

Matt - Can't wait to see photos of your hatch!!

Bird: Oh my...I must say that is the funniest and cutest thing I have seen in a LONG time.
smile.png
I'm going to have to try the rolled oats treat as well!! There's never any short supply of that in this house!!

BHep - thank you so much for the tips!! I am excited to see if they will eat from me!!
big_smile.png

Green - thank you for the tips as well. I have TONS of frozen veggies on hand, so that is easy enough. I was thinking I would have to buy mealworms or something!!

For mealworms..... they will be your best friends! I hate those things, so I have a little cup, when my chickens see that cup they go NUTS!
lol.png

There is a lady in raleigh that sells them, thats where I got mine. She is really nice and will explain to you how to grow your own, we are growing ours, but they take forever and I'm impatient.

I got 1000 for $10 or something like that. I can dig out her info if you want.

Plus you can order online....

NH, I wouldn't be in a big hurry to start them on scratch, right now they need the chick feed most of all it has all the right amount of nutrients, scratch is like candy. They really wouldn't need it till fall and cold weather. Mine love meal worms as a treat. even my shyist will take them out of my hand. and they are protein. One more day and your little bundles arrive, can't wait to see pictures.

I have a question for BHep or anyone else who has hatched with a broody, my Brahma [first time mama] hatch out 2 chicks Tuesday morning, and hasn't brought them out yet is that normal, my little frizzle had hers out in 2 days and eating but this one hasn't, I looked at them this morning and they are fine but I'm getting a little worried that they need to eat. Any suggestions? I would not want to take them from her unless an emergency.
