Phew...thank you SO much for that load off my shoulders!! I was worried the tote wouldn't work, and THEN I was going to have to go into panic mode!!
What is a good treat for them? Is it something I can get at TS?? I want them to LIKE ME, after all, Gavin has been spoiling them and they're going to miss him!! Do you have to measure their food (like cats, horses, etc...) or are they okay with free feeding? Do I have to do anything special for their water?? Will they be stressed from their "move"?? If so, what can I expect?
sorry to ask so many questions!! I'm going to be a new momma shortly!!
BHep, I forgot to ask, how did the DS do today? Is he recovering well? Give him an extra hug from us all and tell him HAPPY 6mo day!!
BC - I agree with BHep - we NEED to see photos of Wilma.
I'll wait while you go get the camera!!
Okay, so this orange stuff for poison ivy...it would work great IF it actually STAYED on my skin rather than flaking off. Stupid poison ivy just HAS to party around the joints.
How I wish I could just chop off all the limbs that have it until it's gone...then reattach them.
Okay, I am done complaining....for now!! lol
Good Morning RuthAnn,
these baby are pretty big really although they are young depending on how big your tote is you may need 2 -- Gavin can tell you when he delivers them. They have been outside for a week or so and doing GREAT . In our coop run area , I have a large dog crate ( Pet Porter ) - the crate does not have door on it I just wanted it in there in case they wanted a secure feeling place during the day - they LOVE IT and will set in there often- the crate is the big one German Shepherd Dog size - I would say 7 would be comfortable for overnight . They love to roost/perch on tree limbs etc.. so at night they line on a 4X4 post laying in the coop ( too cute ) .
They are eating machines - OMG - they are always munching. In addition to the chick started food, they love scratch , cracked corn , oats and grit - for special treats I give them chick weeds ( Yes I hand pick baskets of fresh weeds for them almost everyday ) - they love em - and watching them scratch the ground while they eat them it true Chicken TV Primetime - heeheee. Also on Sundays I open up a couple cans of salt free corn, rinse it and toss it on the ground - Now this is funny they all try to out do each other on WHO gets the most kernels .
Honest I do not know much about chickens but what I do know I lhave learn for this site - and the wonderful people who are on here ( Special awards go to Trish and Sandy - who have saved the lifes of some desperate hatching chicks - help us understand chicken life and helping arrange a love match marrage LOL ) - and the best book Rasing Backyard Chickens for Dummies - would be glad to loan you my copy - because I am hopeful we will meet up again at a chicken meet up or show.
I would suggest hold them everyday get them used to you - Gavin and I spend a couple hours with them most evenings just picking them up and walking around them , also the kids in the neighborhood come visit often - and hold them , the birds do not mind at all being picked up and cuddled ( I know some people think we are nuts , but we love holding them and petting them , they will fall asleep in your lap , it is way adorable ) --- okay yes I have kissed them on the top of thier sweet little chick heads - LOVE LOVE LOVE em I bet you could not tell.
Anyways ALL the best and do not worry about them just enjoy the baby stage .
Allison
